Agency worker on waiting list for permanent contract but want a baby

Hi I’m in my mid 30s and would love to start a family soon. I am currently in an agency role but have made the waiting list for a permanent job in the same sector which my current placement has requested they would like me placed permanently from. I am delighted at this as love where I am working at present and would love to be there permanently. I am unsure how long it will take them to get to me on the list however to offer me a permanent post or indeed if they definitely will. Do I wait for another while and see? I’m worried time may however not be on my side.

You don't say what your family income is like, whether you have a partner who can support you if you go on maternity leave without a contract.

If you are on your own, personally I would wait a while, maybe 6 months to see if the contract materialises, while looking out for other similar job roles elsewhere. Constantly worrying about money makes parenthood even more of a challenge.
