Contraception after pregnancy, I feel out of control emotionally each month.

I need to get onto some form of contraception.

I gave birth just over 12 weeks and had first period at 6 weeks and now on my third. They have gone progressively heavier( they have never been so heavy, it’s quite scary) and my mood each month is appalling. I didn’t put them both together until today. My mood this last week running up to it has been out of control.

I can’t have the combined pill due to migraine and never got on with the mini pill. Not sure about the implant.

What would be a good kind? I don’t want to ruin my relationship but I’m not nice at the moment.

Are you done having children? If so then a coil may suit you. They were ideal for me (before children) the mirena lasts 5 years and usually makes your periods light or non existent. It's hormone based but low dose and localised so doesn't have the associated side effects of the pill.
Obviously if you want another child in the not to distant future then it may not be ideal.

I had my tubes tied after I had my final child as I was having a section and as hormonal contraception doesn't seem to go very well for me in terms of mood & I didn't want the faff of changing coil every 5 years but I'd have gone back to coil if I wasn't having surgery anyway.

If you don’t want another baby in the next year I have always got along well with the depo injection personally. No periods and no noticeable changes in mood. Low maintenance too - just a quick jab every 3 months.
