Mirena - makes me feel like early pregnancy

Hi all,

Lots of threads about the mirena tend to be either very positive or very negative and I just wondered if there were women with mixed feelings?

I have not had it long and have no complaints- apart from the tiredness. It's not so bad that I can't do things but I do feel tired all the time. Like you do in very early pregnancy where you could sleep for 12 hours but wake up feeling just as tired.

Do early side effects like this settle down? Do women put up with them for the bigger pluses ( no periods, no pregnancy etc).

Thanks

I've had the mirena for over a year and it is brilliant in regards to no periods and no pregnancy. It took about 6 months for them to completely stop and everything to settle.

One thing I've noticed (it might be a coincidence) is that I'm more productive! I get up and clean the house more, and it's not such a chore, where as before I always left things til tomorrow and couldn't be bothered.

The only thing is I have put on weight and it's slowly creeping up. I'm wondering if these are 'pregnancy' symptoms as in effect the hormones are tricking the body into thinking it's pregnant so as to not fall pregnant, right?

I feel like the active tidying is possibly like nesting? But when I was actually pregnant, tiredness was a symptom and I feel like the opposite now, so who knows? 😅

@GattinaGattona thanks for replying. I have read lots around the coil and haven't seen increased productivity as a side effect. That sounds great! I am 3 months in, no change to periods, slight increase in appetite, pmt is a bit better... but the tiredness is still bad. I keep thinking about arranging to have it removed but then tell myself I must wait 6 months as loads say that's how long it takes to settle.

Do you think that it does mimic the hormones of early pregnancy ? I have tried to research it but can't get an answer.

I’m not really sure but I was always told that the pill mimics pregnancy so your body is tricked into thinking it’s pregnant iyswim and therefore doesn’t fall pregnant.
