If you have a mirena, how did your periods stop?

Just that really. Always been fairly regular & had a coil fitted in December. Periods continued (much to my annoyance) however they’ve been lighter & less painful. I’ve not had one this month. I’ll admit I’ve not kept track, but definitely had one in July & was expecting it around the middle of this month. Still nothing today. So…..did anyone’s just randomly stop rather than tail off gently…?

Mine didn’t stop at all!

I had continuous light bleeding for a few weeks after getting the Mirena. It tailed off gradually and I never had another period. I was in perimenopause at the time, so that might be why.

I thought I was going to be in the same boat, but it’s just not appeared this month out of nowhere Confused

I bled continuously for several months, then I'd have a couple of days off, then bleed again for a few weeks, then a couple of days off... it was like the opposite of normal. I got it taken out in the end.

I had the vaguest of spotting then absolutely nothing , but then I never had heavy periods anyway

Wombat96 · 31/08/2021 21:29

Yep, grim for a while then nothing ever again. Wish I'd had one put in years prior, much better.

I’ve not really had any issues. Been pretty regular since getting it fitted in December. It’s been fine so far.

I have a friend who got pregnant with her coil fitted. I’m sure it’s rare though so law of averages would assume it’s not that.

I had spotting for about two months then... nothing! It was bliss. They crept back gradually as I got to the end of the shelf life of my first one. I had it changed in April and now I'm back to nothing again. I love it!

Mine never stopped. But they did get a lot lighter. And recently I've had weird bleeding which I think was caused by the covid vaccine. But interesting what you are saying @RamsayBoltonsConscience as I am nearing the end of its shelf life too, so maybe a new one will change things.

Mine was put in 8 weeks pp with ds, and my periods never came back.

When it slipped into my cervix and so stopped working, it was quite hard to date my pregnancy with dd2, as I hadn't had a period.

Had light spotting occasionally in a non cyclical way for a couple of months and then nothing since. Same with all 3. No actual periods for over 10 years. Bloody awesome

Was breastfeeding when it was put in so hadn't had a period since before I got pregnant.

Haven't had anything other than VERY occasional exceptionally light spotting in the last 13 years (on my third mirena).
