What happened after you had a Mirena coil fitted?

What are people's experiences of bleeding after having a Mirena coil fitted? Especially if you had it post partum before the return of your periods. I'm not taking about periods in the long term, I mean straight after fitting.

I had one put in 2 weeks ago, the nurse said I might get a little bit of spotting for a day pr two but no bleeding and since I wad only 9 weeks post partum and ebf, it's unlikely my periods would return. But I've been bleeding ever since, it's more than spotting, I'd describe it as similar to a light period. I feel fine so assume it's on the spectrum of normal, but after 6 weeks of post birth bleeding I was looking forward to a break! Just wondering what others have experienced.

Not postpartum but after fitting I bled like that for 9 months. I was begging them to take it out in the end. I also put on a whole load of weight and was constantly exhausted.
Conversely my DSis had hers in for 5 years, never had a period and loved it.

Had one fitted (not postpartum) year ago. Bled 8 months straight, put lots on weight, spots appeared on my face. In the end I got so fed up that I had it taken out. Never again.

Not postpartum but had one fitted around a year ago. I had light bleeding for around 3 weeks, then spotting for a few weeks.

Now i only have spotting for about 3 days a month.

I hope it settles down soon for you.

Oh dear, sorry to hear about the bad experiences. Thanks for the replies, I'll keep my fingers crossed it all works out here!

Bled for 6 months. Killed any libido I might have had... but I am not pregnant so basic objective achieved.

Gosh 9 weeks post is very early. My GP wouldn't put it in for 3 months after my third, she said something about more pregnancies increasing the risk though, so if this was your first it's probably fine. Must say I would maybe just phone up and check though. I had it put in before periods came back, and that was that, no more periods.

Cakeandslippers · 06/10/2020 14:51

@tootletum it was my second baby, they said you could have it any time from birth, though I just realised it was actually 10 weeks. I got pregnant 8 months pp last time on the pill so I'm hoping this is more effective! I'll see how it goes this week and might ring, only thing is my GP had to refer me to a sexual health nurse in another practice to fit it due to covid so I can't get back in touch with them very easily.

@Cakeandslippers Yeah I'm sure it's fine. Don't really know why my GP seemed so worried about perforation, maybe there's something I don't know about my bits! Anyway hope it resolves for you.

I'm considering this as I have a new partner and we follow the withdrawal method. The doctor has said there's a huge risk of pregnancy with this method but I'm really worried about having anything inside me.
