Positives and negatives of mirena coil

Im having an operation next week and they said they will fit me a coil at the same time. They have decided to go with mirena as it will help my heavy periods but I haven't used any hormonal contraceptives for 4 years and I'm worried the effects this may have on me?!?

For me it’s been brilliant, I’m on my second. I did have spotting for the first few weeks though. It has helped my heavy periods immensely.

I would however get MNHQ to move this to the Family Planning Section, which is about contraception. This section is for women who are pg and facing some very difficult decisions.

Hello, @Sienna04 - we're just bobbing up here to say that we've now moved your thread over to the Family Planning topic, as requested.

Best of luck. Flowers

I'm on my third and it's been great for me. Nothing to remember to take, and barely any periods.

I’m on my second. For me, the only downside was getting the first taken out, to have second put in. That said, I had forgotten to dose myself with painkillers as suggested.

Had mine a few weeks and it appears to have stopped my periods after just one bleed. Took a month to settle, initial cramping then a two week bleed - now nothing
