Had a copper coil fitted and have been bleeding ever since - anybody else?

I had a coil fitted on 19th October 2018, I'm posting this 5th November 2018. Basically since I've had it done, I've been bleeding non stop, not just spotting like enough that I have to change a pad every 4 to 5 hours. Has anybody else experienced this? I know it can affect your periods but if this is what it's going to be like, I don't know what to do. I can't have any other kind of decent contraception because I don't do well with any hormones Confused

Yep!
I had mine fitted at the end of August. I had light spotting for about a week, nothing for about a month, and now I have been having a period for over a month. I have been told that it can take up to six months for everything to settle down, and to go back at six months if it hasn't. Hang on in there I guess 🤞💪

Yes. I couldn’t take it. I was bleeding through my clothes even with all the pads and tampons in the world. I was also bloated. I think I lasted 4 months before I got it taken out. I had to really fight for it to be removed though. That annoyed me. Grrr.

WAtch ‘the bleeding edge’ on Netflix. That has a whole section about coils....

Years ago I had one of those coils with hormones in. That was blooming grim too.

Hi ladies, thanks for your messages. The bleeding has finally slowed done and on the verge of stopping! I just hope it settles down cos like I said, my body can't seem to tolerate any kind of hormonal contraception so this is a last chance saloon for me :( thanks for comments!

I couldn't find the section on coils in The Bleeding Edge. I saw the part about Essure - the permanent sterilization but not the coil. I'd like to see it, how far into the film is it? Thanks

Yep normal. Having a copper coil put in is horrible at first. For me it was agony, actually! But I’ve had mine 2.5 years and it’s such a dream now.

Yep, mine settled down too! Still some random spotting but generally fine 👍
