Mirena coil - can periods stop after 2 years?

Just that really. I got my mirena coil just over 2 years ago to treat my heavy painful periods. I was one of the unlucky ones who still got periods after the 'settling in period' of spotting every day. It didn't have much effect on my pain levels, but reduced bleeding massively which has changed my life.

Anyway, my period is late. I've checked for strings and it seems the coil is still in place. I even took a pregnancy test to put my mind at rest and its negative. I had some pain and irritability for a day or two when it was due but no bleeding.

I'd been told by the nurse at the sexual health clinic that if periods are going to stop it will be within the first year. Is it possible for my periods to have stopped this long after getting the coil in?
