Do you need to wait before having sex after having a copper coil inserted? If so, how long for?

I know it's effective as contraception immediately but when is it safe to have sex? Is it straight away or should you wait? I forgot to ask the Dr and can't find a definitive answer online

I was told I could have sex when I was ready as the copper one starts as contraceptive immediately where as the hormonal ones take a full cycle to be working.

That's just my personal experience form my gp when I had my mirena switched to a copper one last month.

Nurse told me to wait 48 hours to reduce the risk of infection. You could phone the clinic if you r worried though
