Mirena coil and bad itchy scalp

I've had the coil for 5 months and have developed a itchy scalp that's so severe it's driving me nuts. Right now my head feels like it's on fire. I've never had this before so wondered if there is a connection. Google searches bring to up loads of others with the same problem.

I'm not that happy with it in general as still having (light) periods, by with terrible PMS symptoms. Incredibly sore breasts, period pain, spots.

I want to give it at least 6 months so I've given it a fair chance, but has anyone had similar side effects? If so did they subside or did you just get true coil removed?

Did you ever get to the bottom of this I've had my coil for over a year and have had the exact same problem all year it's driving me insane.

I’d also be interested in finding out how you’re getting on. I’ve had mirena for about 2.5 years now and my head itches on and off for days sometimes weeks at a time. It drives me crazy. I’ve mentioned it to docs and they don’t ever take any notice. Interesting to hear other people experiencing same thing

Just an update, still have coil in i had been booked to have it out as was not going to put up with the side effects, the itchy scalp was a nightmare however whilst waiting i tried some vitamins Starflower oil capsules which are meant to be good at hormone imbalance and my side effects settled so i cancelled coil removal and thought i would see how i went on so far so good!

Hi, I had the M coil fitted roughly two months ago and am also experiencing a really itchy scalp it comes and goes but usually last for a day or so, I seem to be experiencing hair loss and brittle hair did any of you experience the same?

Hi everyone, joining this thread as I have the same thing! In a way happy I have found the cause but its also so frustrating ! I had the coil as my GP said it was the easiest option but so far (4 months in) I hate it - havent stopped bleeding! I will try the hormone balancers though first before removing it - i cant handle the itchy scalp and just hope my hair doesnt fall out!
