Tell me your sterilisation stories good and bad

I've got 3 dc very happy not to have any more. I've asked my GP to refer me for sterilisation which he did quite happily. However did point out that it's still possible to suffer ectopic pregnancy or go into early menopause after being sterilised. It got me worried a bit just want some feedback from those who have gone through it. (Dh flat out refuses a vasectomy and I don't want to carry on with the pill for years and years to come)

Place marking! My second mirena is due to come out towards the end of the year and I am looking at options.

I don't know about these particular aspects of sterilisation, as they weren't mentioned back in the dark ages. But 20 odd years down the line since mine, I can say that the procedure was quick and easy with 2 days resting post op and no lifting for maybe 4/5 days. No ectopic pregnancies and a respectable menopause onset at 51.

The GP mentioned the clips being put on the tubes in my case. I'm bloody clueless about it all to be honest

I was sterilised when I had my 4th section 10 months ago, my surgeon removed a long section of my tubes. My periods returned 3 months ago and so far have not noticed any difference in flow etc etc, I don't regret my decision and it's lovely not having to remember to take a pill every day!

Sterilised at 28 with clips, no periods since and no ectopic son problems
Sadly I was incredibly uncomfortable after for 24hours as they kind of inflate you with gas, but other than that no problem hope that helps

Silly question but do you think it requires booking a week off work to have it done/recover? flump was your surgery a day case or was you in hospital a few days?

It was a day case, I was shit that day but back at tesco doing weekly shop with 2dd's the day after. You are sore for a couple of days though

Not a silly question uhoh. It's definitely worth booking some time post op and really resting. Doing absolutely sweet fa. A colleague who had it done around the same time as me, ignored the 2 day rest advice and went home (both day cases, discharged almost as soon as you are conscious) and started hanging out the washing. Got readmitted with something unpleasant which I can't remember now. Maybe not worth a week off - I went back on the 3rd day- but definitely need some recovery time. It wasn't painful or uncomfortable, but it was great to lie around for 48 hours reading mags and watching crap tv.

I think like most ops it's a behave yourself and don't overdo it job but hey a week sounds like bloody heaven if you can do it why not
