Question for anyone that came off the pill after taking it to alleviate heavy oeriods

I've now been on the pill for over 12 years. I was initially prescribed the combined pill in my late teens as I had had enough of the heavy, painful periods I had been experiencing.

I'm now on Cerazette as my blood pressure was higher than it should be on the combined pill. Although I like Cerazette in the sense that my periods are usually very light, it is also causing me problems. Firstly, the 'spotting' can range from literal spotting for a day or two, to a normal period that lasts for 2 weeks. I hate the unpredictability of it. I also think it has affected my libido and I find that I am pretty uninterested in sex now.

I am thinking of coming off the pill compeltely and using condoms as contraception. I am getting married in a couple of months and although we are not planning to start a family immediately it wouldn't be the end of the world if I did become pregnant. What bothers me is the possibility of my periods coming back with a vengeance.

Has anyone that previously had heavy periods come off the pill after several years to find a difference? I'm not sure I'm ready to go back to the pain and inconvenience I put up with for several years as a teenager Confused

Mine have come back soooo bad, I've been of the pill for nearly a year and still really heavy. That bad doc is sending me for ultra sound :/
My doc told me they're hereditary, and because they didn't calm down after I had a baby they probs never would! im destined to have monster periods like my mother

I was put on it at 17 for that reason. 18 years later one perfectly normal period, barely worse than the withdrawal bleed on the pill and then upduffed! They may well have improved, my sex drive certainly did off the pill Blush I think DH was rather upset that it only took a month!

I was put on the pill at 13 and came off it at age 33 (I tried depo and the implant with horrible side effects). My periods came back lighter, shorter duration and less severe cramps. I do wonder if it was just age though and not the pill.

Oh that doesn't sound good Pocket. Hope you get sorted once you've had the scan and they can do something to help.

And yes DrWhy, I'm sure my DP will be even more delighted than I will if my sex drive comes back when I stop the pill. I think it's got much worse since I've been on the mini pill.

Your experience sounds promising Grin. I'm almost 30 so I'm hoping I might have grown out of the heavy periods if that's possible!
