Mirena coil still hasn't settled after 5 months!!

I got my Mirena coil fitted in March and the first 10 days were great! But after that it all started going down hill... I was spotting everyday and I had to go for a scan because they couldn't find my strings but it's still in place. I'm now 5 months down the line and I seem to have a light period (like spotting) one month then a heavy one the next?! When I have a light period I still get the cramps but no real bleeding? While the spotting has stopped its the heavy bleeding every other month that's getting to me, has anyone else experienced this? I can't shift any weight, I have no sex drive and my mood swings are awful! Is this all to do with the coil? I thought it would have settled down by now :(

The doctors say wait 6 months. I had daily bleeding and had mine removed after 2 months. I don't think it is reasonable to put up with daily bleeding and erratic bleeding. See if your GP can suggest something else?

Mine was ok after 6 months. I had it removed the other day as dp has had a vasectomy but I had it for 5 years with no periods for about 4.

Just had mine removed today after 8 months of erratic bleeding. Mostly spotting but with random sudden heavy bleeds thrown in. I also have zero libido, sex has become painful and I'm low, anxious and moody. It's been 100% effective contraception but a disaster by any other way of reckoning.
Having read threads on here about doctors refusing to remove coils I didn't leave it open for discussion, just booked a removal appointment and stated the bleeding was unacceptable. I'm sure the GP would say the other problems couldn't be due to the coil, but a lot of women think differently. We will see if I feel better over the coming months....
I was told it was sitting very low in my womb/cervical canal and that might have contributed to the problems, but I will not be getting another to test that theory.

Mine hasn't really ever settled down. The bleeding lessened at around the six month mark but at 18 months I'm still bleeding most days. I had a referral to the gynae and she said that it's not the hormones that are making me bleed, it's that my uterus is being irritated by the coil so it's not likely to get better. I found I was incredibly depressed too for the first 6-8 months but that did settle eventually. I also have zero sex drive. I will probably get it taken out. My only reservation is that I have a condition that leaves me with painful lumps in my armpits. It's linked to hormones and mirena all but gets rid of it.
