Can't find coil thread – ultra-sound needed

Just been for my pre coil-replacement appointment where they take swabs and the nurse couldn't find the threads. She called in the doctor who does the coils and she is referring me for an ultra-sound. She said best case scenario is that they have got tucked up into the cervix, but worst case scenario it would have to be removed by a general anaesthetic. She looked at me and said 'you looked scared' – how right she was! Has anyone had this? She also said that chances are I don't have any contraception at the moment too, which figures I guess …

Yes, I've had this, they just got tucked up inside. Ultra-sound revealed the coil was in place and a few periods after that they came back out. It is scary, but most of them time it's something simple, especially if you haven't had any other symptoms. I was having pain, cramping, bleeding after intercourse with my and it still was nothing to worry about. Try to keep calm, I know it's difficult. I'm sure all will be fine. Smile

I had that very recently - and made a thread too! I had the scan very quickly, it was where it should be, but hiding strings.

After two periods, on the last rummage before looking at a GA, strings suddenly reappeared, and it was whipped out there and then.

So the outcome may still be simple.

Otherwise, lots of kind ladies told me that the GA procedure was very quick and straightforward.

Good luck

Thank you both – and interesting to know they will give it a bit of time to sort itself out itself before going for a GA … Hope it isn't too long a wait for the scan now.
