Can I get a coil fitted 2 weeks after unprotected sex?

Other half and I had unprotected sex on Monday, my appointment for the coil fitting is the Monday after next, making it exactly 2 weeks after last having unprotected sex.

It'll be too early to test as my period also ended on Monday but I know they'll do one anyway.

Will they go ahead with the procedure even with no way of knowing 100%, will they turn me away or can they use their magic medical powers to find out so soon?

I doubt they'll fit it - they'll want evidence of a negative pregnancy test. They might do one on the Monday you attend for the coil fit and fit it if negative but our protocol is a negative test at least 16 days (ideally 21)after the last episode of unprotected sex.

You could always phone them first to check to save a wasted trip?

They'll turn you away.

Think the maximum time suggested between sex and fitting is 7 days.

Arse! That's what I thought.

They said no sex a week before but we never spoke about the pregnancy aspect over the phone, didn't even occur to me til after I'd booked it.

Is it a copper IUD you're having, Wetthemogwai? If so, you still might be able to have it fitted on the day of your appointment under the criteria for using the IUD as emergency contraception. The guidelines are that an IUD can be fitted up to 5 days after the earliest predicted date of ovulation (which is day 19 of a typical 28 day cycle, based on ovulation occurring on day 14), regardless of when you had unprotected sex in that cycle. (Day 1 of the cycle is the first day of your period.) Might be worth phoning the clinic to speak to a nurse/doctor and explaining your situation.
