Cerazette or Mirena for heavy periods?

I had DD in April, by c-section & have had lots of bleeding since then - short cycles (21 days) & very heavy flow.

I've been on Cerazette for 2 weeks now & still bleeding through it. (Previously had breakthrough bleeding on coc).

Is it worth persisting with Cerazette in the hope that the bleeding will reduce/stop? Or would I be better with a Mirena coil?

Am also wondering if I'm peri-menopausal as my cycles have got shorter over the last 5 years & my mum had an early menopause too.

I'm 41 & definitely do not want any more children. Had been hoping DP would have a vasectomy, but I'd like to get the bleeding under control so was thinking hormonal contraception may help.

Any thoughts?

I had pregnancy related complications with DC 2&3 and the consultant warned me not to have any more children, recommending fitting of a Mirena 3 weeks after birth.

My experience was that heavy (but not flooding) painful periods have reduced to, maybe needing a panty liner for a couple of days. I keep no record of when these happen. From needing strong painkillers I know get a slight gripe, which can be followed by an, aah, panty liner thought.

It works for me.

I have had a mirena for 4 years now. Took a good while to settle down (had it in soon after 6week check after dc4) despite breast feeding. Recently had 4mths on cerazette too to stop erratic spotting.

BUT much better than the flooding periods I was having before dc4, especially as my cycle was getting shorter

Thanks for your replies. I'm giving Mirena some serious thoughts. Unfortunately our GP surgery don't fit then & I'd need to go to family planning, which is a bit of a hassle with a newborn & 4 year old. I think I'll give the Cerazette a bit longer, 2 weeks isn't a lot of time but I'm fed up with bleeding/spotting constantly.
