Please someone help me, i had the Mirena fitted 3 months ago. I'm staying at my in laws in a small town in N Africa & have suddenly started bleeding very heavily. Sorry TMI but its dripping out of me worse than post birth bleeding.

The strings seem so much lower, do you think it's coming out? Would this make me bleed heavily?

i'm scared. Do you think i can wait 24hrs before I see a doctor? Luckily we're flying home tomorrow

Do you have travel insurance? If so call the helpline they should have access to a nurse you could discuss this with.

I have no idea but didn't want to leave you hanging. Do your inlaws know a doctor you could see?

Is this your first bleed since you had the Mirena inserted? I know that it is supposed to make periods lighter, but my copper coil makes my periods incredibly heavy.

Thanks for the replies. Sadly no travel insurance - stupid with hindsight - but one to remember for next time!

No not my first bleed, my 3rd i think or 4th. I had it put in for heavy bleeding and it's been much better in that respect - just bleed for so long now 2+ weeks.

I wasn't even due a period yet!

Sure the doctors here won't have even heard of the Mirena coil!

One of the helpful things for perimenopause heavy bleeding is to take the full dose of ibuprofen on the first day of a period and then every 4 hours. Don't know if it will help, but may help you until you get back home.
