Mirena advice please - having a 'period' 2 years after insertion

Have not really had one before just the occasional bit of spotting but have been bleeding for a few days - not as heavy as a real period but much more than spotting. Also seem to have thrush
Any ideas? Is this normal? Can still feel the strings.

I'm not clued up.. but... my sister had this fitted about 6 months ago. She's had problems recently, did a preg test and it was positive. Then had bleed. Was at GP for unrelated issues, mentioned to GP what had happened, she was told the coil didn't prevent egg being fertilised by sperm, it stopped the fertilised egg embedding in the womb. So she actually got pregnant but the coil prevented the egg attaching and becoming viable.. Both my sis and I were a bit by this as we didn't realise it worked in this way.
Maybe your bleeding could be this?

Hope not :-( might take a test though as still bleeding (4or 5 days). Sounds grim.

Like I say, I have no idea if your bleeding could be this. I'm just letting you know the only experience I have. My sister had positive test but then the coil obviously did not let the preg continue. So even if you were preg then you'll not be now. I don't mean that to sound cold! We were both really shocked, both at the GP's throw away attitude of how it happens, and also to how the coil actually works. It's food for thought I guess. Good luck, I hope you get sorted soon, I'd probably go to your GP for check up, put your mind at rest and get rid of bleeding/thrush once and for all.

I had mine in 6 months issue-free, and now have a light period every month or so.

I'm trying not to panic today as I have had pregnancy symptoms for the past week.

It's ok frazzled thanks for your experience. Do not want to get Pg again hence coil. Just seems a bit but I guess I'll never know. Will see GP if continues.

mimsy what symptoms? I know it's apparently almost impossible to get pg on mirena but not unheard of. Is yours still in place? Can you feel the strings?

I'm on my second Mirena and have had many episodes of heavy 'flash' bleeding. I don't worry about it now. Pregnancy symptoms: tender breasts etc..yep, common too. I think it's all par for the course and just let it be.

I've never been able to feel my strings.

My biggest "pregnancy symptom" is agonising hip pain when waking up in the morning. Had mild SPD with DS1, and painful hips in a morning from a couple of weeks pg with DS2, which then led to quite severe SPD. Vanished again as soon as I delivered.

Nausea and appetite change too.

I had a Mirena fitted at the end of Jan. I am now on day 14 of my period and feel ready to explode. I want it out. I didn't want it in the first place I wanted to be sterilsed I had a feeling this would happen.
