Can anyone say anything positive about the Mirena Coil

I have a 10 week old baby and 1 stone and 1/2 to loose before I can get back into my work clothes in April.

I am meant to be having a Mirena Coil fitted on Wednesday but I've got myself ina bit of a state about it. Everything I have read is about people gaining weight, not being able to loose weight despite dieting and exercising, being moody and depressed, no sex drive. If this is all the case then what is the point.

But what could I do that won't mess me up in this way? I asked to be sterilised but the DR said I should try this first.

Can anyone reassure me?

I've had mine for coming up 5 years now, and I"m going to phone this week to get another one fitted - I love it. I had really heavy, unpredictable periods, and after an initial 6 months of more unpredictable periods, I've had nothing! I thought I'd get something closer to the time that it ran out, but nothing so far, and it runs out in March. I'm hoping that they'll whip it out and put a new one in during the same visit though... It was a little uncomfortable going in, and I'd rather not have to do it twice, really!

jellybeans now fuller boobs is a side effect I could quite happily cope with, not being hugely well blessed in that area!

I'm on my third too - had them since 2000. I've been very happy with them

MadameCastafiore · 21/01/2013 20:49

Have had one for 12 years. Have an 8 year old!

Other than that great. No pain. No periods, can't remember if weight gain. Will tell you in 6 months when have convinced DH to have the snip!

One more question.

Did you loose your sex drive or did it remain as it was before?

I've had one for just over a year. Bleeding is all over the place and for the most part is daily, but is very light which is great compared to what was happening.
I had bled everyday for over a year, enough that I needed to use a pad. At period times, I'd have to use a super tampon and a super pad together and change both after 25hrs.
Was an absolute nightmare.
Had a mirena coil fitted and everything improved instantly.

I am happy with mine.

After fitting I had a few pains and laid down with a hot water bottle for an hour, felt better.

My heavy periods are much, much better.

MadameCastafiore · 21/01/2013 20:59

I have virtually no sex drive due to being a knackered old hag not sure it anything to do with dear old cool, although I still put out often, am good like that. Although win't be soon if DH doesn't get sorted out!

He was a happy arrival. Unexpected and at a bit of a bad time. Divorce came through 4 days before he was born! Was DPs though not XHs.

On my second. Tried to have a break after the first and ended up in a&e on Tramadol with painful periods. Couldn't get number two in quickly enough. I did have a spotty back for a while but it's loads better with the second one. Weight? Lost two stone easily with it, pmt is about the same. But no more periods, I never had white trousers before the Mirena!

Shattereddreams · 21/01/2013 21:08

Sex drive has remained pretty much the same.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 21/01/2013 21:11

Excuse the nosiness madame had it come out?

onedev · 21/01/2013 21:19

I love the Mirena Grin. I've had mine for 18months & it's been brill. Just a bit of spotting monthly & nothing else at all. I also lost 3 stone whilst on it (after DC3) so no issues with weight gain either.

lalalonglegs · 21/01/2013 21:27

Four years, no periods, no weight gain, no problems (think the hormones may improve sex drive...).

DreamsInBinary · 21/01/2013 21:48

Love mine

MrsShrek3 · 21/01/2013 22:50
