Implant tomorrow. Any good stories out there?

Getting it implanted tmrw and now have read so many terrible stories, reviews about unwanted pregnancies, side effects, constant bleeding now want to chicken out. Anyone have a positive experience? Am currently on progestogen only pill but with 2 LO keep forgetting.

Whaaaaat?? I just came on Mumsnet to ask opinions on the implant as I am thinking of getting one.... I had no idea it had such a bad reputation! I shall watch this thread with interest!

I have had one since march, no problems whatsoever!

when mine was done I was told the large majority of the pregnancies are ones where the person was already pregnant at time of insertion and just didn't know.

I had a couple of extremely light periods - more a day or two of spotting, and nothing since, it has been bliss!

I had one put in about a year ago and I love it. Like you I kept forgetting the pill and a fourth pregnancy is def not on the cards!

My GP said some of the pregnancy rate stats (which are about the same as the pill anyway) are skewed because some woman remove the implant themselves (and claim not to have I suppose!) and as nora says, they could be pregnant at the time it was put it.

Good luck- mine didn't hurt a bit, just a bandage over the wound for a few days and a bit of a bruise but nothing terrible.

Periods are about the same as before, not very light but not heavy either and they are further apart than before averaging every 6 weeks instead of every 4 weeks.

I had it in for 3 years and didnt get pregnant. Had very light bleeding 20/30 days of the month for about 9 months and then no periods for two years.

Towards the end I did get lots of pregnancy symptoms-bloating, nausea, sensitivity to smell, sore boobs, but I didn't actually get pregnant until two months after I had it removed.

It did affect my libido and my emotions (I felt blank and detached constantly), but I think it affects everyone differently.

IIRC I wrapped my arm in clingfilm for a couple of days to protect the wound whilst I showered, you aren't supposed to get it wet. Otherwise insertion and removal was fine.

Hi I am on my second and totally recommend it, doesnt matter if you are ill or on antibiotics dont have to remember to take it, I have 2 or 3 days light bleeding every 2 or 3 months though took about 6 weeks to settle after first went in :)

I had my second implant a year and a half ago, and had my first for 3 years before that, after getting pregnant twice whilst forgetting taking the pill.
Have had absolutely no problems with it, just a sore arm for a few days, very light almost non-existent periods and NO more babies best of all no need to remember it every day- just get it replaced after 3 years (I timed it so its due same time as my smear, so they send me a letter) much easier and I would recommend it to anyone.

im still clinging onto the hope that i will have good news soon! not so good at the moment tho. DS is 6months now, stopped BF about 2m ago and had implant about 3m ago. no problems initially but over the past month i have had pretty much alternating spotting and heavy bleeding. I know it takes a while to settle down but def cant cope with this for much longer! husband getting impatient too IYKWIM.

I've had mine for two years now, and haven't had a period since it was put in. No other symptoms that I can attribute to it either, so it's been brilliant for me.

Two of my friends had it done at around the same time as me, one has only had light periods regularly, but the other had quite heavy bleeding right from the start and had hers removed after six months or so, so I guess it's the luck of the draw!

OMG. Thanks for all the responses. Was checking until I went to bed but maybe my laptop playing up as thought I had no responses. BUT I did chicken out...sorry. Was too scared to have it done as worried about lowering an already non-existent libido, being more moody (think DH was very concerned about this!), irregular bleeding. I'm on POP pill with 3hr grace so was a nightmare for forgetting. But had a lovely doctor who gave me another POP pill with 12hrs forgetting time. So, we're staying on the pill....altho at moment tiredness and lack of sleep is a good enough contraceptive ;)
