Nexplanon implant thing - how I regret that!

Had the implant put in just before travelling abroad (two and half weeks ago) and how I hate the thing! I bleed constanty - enough, initially, to just need pantyliners but for a week and a half now, enough to need the Mooncup. I feel grumpy quite a lot of the time and, much as I can't have sex what with all the bleeding, I don't fancy it all! The one time we managed, it was really uncomfortable. I also hate that I can feel it in my arm, although that is obviously a minor concern.

So, as a contraceptive, it's pretty effective, but it's not what I had in mind.

I can't take oestrogen-based contaceptives, I got pregnant and then miscarried on micronor and I'm not going for the Mirena - not risking messing my hormones about like this again. Want it out and then go back to condoms - never had any problems with them.

If I could take it out myself with the paring knife in the kitchen, I think I would.

Is it likely to settle down, do you think? Also, what are my chances of getting it removed when I get back home in a week or so?

This is my second time around on the Nexplanon implant the first time around I felt fine no problems but the past 4 months or so I have felt extremely anxious, depressed, dizziness and lack of sex drive I thought there was something wrong with my mental health and have started councelling but after reading this thread today I am starting to think it is my implant as I'm usually a happy go lucky Kind of person but just lately I haven't felt myself at all! I think I'm going to take the plunge and get it taken out on Monday even if I have to pay!

I’m sorry you haven’t felt well this time round, I do believe that our bodies can react differently every time, you know your body so don’t hold back.. and did and my symptoms got worse not better..

liciababy19 · 23/07/2018 04:39

Please help!
I got the implant about 2 1/2 weeks ago. The procedure was easy and painless. I bled imidiately after getting the implant (within the same hour). I bled for 2-3days and that’s it’s so far. My BIGGEST concern is the fact that I am still bruised.. also I have noticed that one of my viens (on both arms) but especially in the arm which my implant is in occasionally become tight. The best way I can describe it.. it feels like a tight string from my elbow and I can trace it down through my forearm. I went back to my clinic because I was concerned and the doctor told me my implant was intact and that it was normal for my arm to be sore. A nurse told me that your viens pop if you are hydrated... which may explain why it comes and goes (I have noticed it’s not tight when I haven’t had much water)

confused However a nurse friend of my mentioned a major vein connected to my heart that could possible be inflamed..

So can anyone help me? Should I go to a doctor?
There is slight aching in my arm and painin my vien (especially when i touch it) when it is tight. I just don’t want it to be a blood clot or something severe that can be taken care of right now while it’s fresh... or if I’m just overthinking.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks! God bless y’all.

I can’t say I’ve felt exactly what you are but I did notice a pinching feeling like on a nerve in my arm and it sometimes felt like a stabbing pain in my arm and around the implant until tissue had grown over it and sealed the implant.
Bruising can take a while, I had it for around a week and a half when my implant was taken out.
If you are worried go to the doctors, 😀

Hi, this is my first time posting so please bare with me.
I had an Implanon which expired in March this year and was replaced with Nexplanon.
I did not have any problems with the Implanon and had no periods.
I was ok at first with the Nexplanon, still no periods but over the last few months I have experienced back ache, tender breasts and stomach bloating to the point where i look 5 months pregnant. I have a small size 8 frame and a huge stomach. I am active and eat healthily. Now, I am bursting out of my bras and my clothing is tight. I am feeling low as I am not used to feeling so big.
Could this be related to the Nexplanon?

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 22/08/2018 17:14

I put on two stones when I was on the implant and I have a small stomach as I have had bariatric surgery! I felt premenstral all the time and craved chocolate which I never did before.
Since coming off it I have lost half a stone, my eating has gone back to normal and I am emotionally back to normal!

Laus3013 · 22/08/2018 17:48

Yes unfortunately I’ve heard a lot of woman say it can make you put weight on. So it could well be.

Mermaid77 · 22/08/2018 19:02

Thank you for your replies. I am now approaching 41 so it may be an age thing too.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 22/08/2018 19:39

I am 43. Keep a record of how you are feeling as you may have doctors trying to persuade you to keep it.

Really? That's good to know, thank you. I was thinking of telling the clinic (GP surgery does not do it) that I was ttc but wasn't sure if I could lie that convincingly.

Im so glad ive stumbled across this.. the implant has actually ruined my life 😂 ive gone from being bubbly and always up for anything to a complete cow! i had it put in a year ago but didnt notice anything different but after six months i had honestly turned into a Psyco, i went from being perfectly fine to crying in a matter of seconds but the worst was how angry and just plain nasty its made me at the slightest inconvenience. After loads of GP appointments and a 4 week wait im due to get it out today, does anyone know how long it will take me too feel better?

Laus3013 · 26/09/2018 18:06

My strange headache feeling went after about 24/48 hours.
After I had my first period it was great cos the implant stopped that, yes I never thought I’d be happy to have one but I was, I’ve not been using any contraception since implant came out about 3 months ago and it feels great to feel normal,
You should start to feel better with in a few days but I think it’s different for everyone. I’ve always been told it’s not like the pill and that the implant is out of your system with in a day or so.
I feel so much better mentally and physically, I hope your appointment goes well today. Let us know how soon you feel better 😀

I just wanted to share my story!!

I had implanon fitted for 6 years and loved it! No periods and no apparent side affects! I then went for this again in a July, I was told it was exactly the same as Inplanon, I thought great!!

Lies! For the last 6 months I have felt awful. No sex drive...at all. Bleeding off and on, I can honestly say I haven’t had a week not bleeding. Doctor kept giving me Ultavlon so I could have a break from the bleeding! As soon as I would stop, if I had any hanky panky it would start again! I was horribly depressed and had bad mood swings with everyone. Even my poor kids and OH! I had it removed today and I already feel like myself. I felt like I was there but I couldn’t control myself, things I should have been excited for I just couldn’t feel excited. Anxious and paranoid, feeling sick and dizzy! I am hoping that I am now back to myself and I am expecting some side effects from removal but it can’t be any worse?!?

Good luck on your journey ladies, this didn’t work for me, I am gutted because it was a good contraceptive in the sense of just forgetting about it and getting on with life, but it wasn’t worth the stress!

Fernando09 · 05/12/2018 20:25

Oh and I went to a family planning clinic, they told me I needed an appointment to get it out. I told them I would take it out myself and they managed to fit me in! So make sure if you know you want it out to ignore the ‘it hasn’t settled down yet’! You know your body best!

Laus3013 · 06/12/2018 01:00

So glad you listened to your body. I’m pretty sure it’s not the same implant... such a shame cos I loved the old one to.

Bug8 · 11/12/2018 17:06

Gosh, I was just abt to post abt this very issue, I had mine fitted two weeks ago but already my sexual appetite has gone, mood swings and the bleeding has not stopped since. Am feeling irritated to be honest and want this thing out too. Not sure which one I should try next when I take it out but I want it out. I have had an injection before and that too made me bleed non stop. Any ideas which ones are better with less side effects?

Fernando09 · 11/12/2018 18:32

You might have to really push to get it taken out as they like to keep it in for 6 months to let it calm down. There are some people who it does settle down with over time, my experience unfortunately didn’t reflect that. I be been to Gynaecology today and they’ve told me an ablation is my next option. Which isn’t ideal, so I might have to give the injection another try for the time being! Contraception isn’t fun! The sooner they do male pills the better I say 😔

Bug8 · 11/12/2018 19:18

This isn't great for me at all, cos am anaemic and just started taking iron for the next three months. I can't be bleeding constantly. They will take it out

Fernando09 · 11/12/2018 19:41

Good luck, may be worth running it for three months alongside your iron tablets. My first one (implanon) settled down after 6 weeks and all was good. It may be worth looking at your options for contraception now and the hormones within them. If you don’t normally have heavy periods I hear the copper coil is good.

Bug8 · 11/12/2018 21:39

Fernando09, it would be fine waiting but this is a different one to Implanon. Now I wish I had had implanon but of course they just suggested that one. Already I can feel how so very much it has affected me. Don't think I can put up with it any longer, am not the kind of person I was two weeks ago, at the weekend I was feeling so low, emotional, snapped at my boyfriend, my second drive is down to zero.......all the bad things. So taking it out is my option.

Kaarina1 · 01/11/2019 02:02

Implanon vs Nexaplon!

I had the implanon twice. Stopped my periods for each three years I had this in (must have been 12 yrs ago since the first one)

A year ago I was told this nexaplon was the same, they implanted it and now 1 yr later I am having non stop periods. I have only just realised that my unreasonable moods swings AT WORK would most likely be because of them.

After reading all reviews I now see why I have gone through the year I have.

I wan't this nexaplon out tomorrow. It is not the same as implanon!
I cannot wait to see my old self and I am sure those around me cannot either.

Will update as soon as I am free of this

Kaarina1 · 01/11/2019 02:04

to add I knew what I was like on the implanon and specifically asked if I could have the same one. I was not offered this and felt like i was told the nexaplon was an "update"

Kaarina1 · 01/11/2019 02:19

After 2 rounds of the implanon I never blamed my 10 stone weight gain on this.

I came off this for a couple of years lost the weight (all the 10 stone) then went to the nexaplon.

Now I am back on the nexaplon I have gained 2 stone.

I am thinking it is making me hungry and craving.

I always blamed myself (Still will for eating, nothing there but myself to blame)

But I now want to get the nexplon out and see how my cravings are.

I am now just worried as I still want to be on contraceptive and one that I do not worry about daily.
