Chipped the mouthpiece of his clarinet!!

I need some help regards how much this will cost to replace and where I should go.
I am not a musician myself, I don't know what quality his instrument is, it was passed on through a family friend. Do I need to replace like for like? Central London

Any help appreciated

Don't know, but my DS has broken the thumb rest on his, so I'll watch this thread and hope that someone who knows one end of a clarinet from the next will come along.

he has just spoken to teacher who says its the cheapest part to replace. That's reassuring.
Hope someone else comes along soon.

There is a local specialist wind instrument shop (St Albans in herts) which sells spare parts both on premises and online - so you could use even if you're other end of country

The cheapest part to replace? Rather depends on the quality of the instrument and also the standard of the player who uses it.

My clarinet retails at £1280 and the mouthpiece would cost £80 or so to replace. There is no way I would buy a cheaper mouthpiece. It's probably the most important part of the instrument.

I bought a new saxophone mouthpiece for dd last week and it cost £25. It's a reasonable one - but not the most expensive - or the cheapest.

It's a Boosey and Hawkes Regent Bb he only started playing last year. I dont know what would be the right quality mouthpiece S-JAKE As I have seen a huge range of parts prices. should I try to get a replacement 2nd hand, I can get the whole instrument on Ebay. or buy a new piece different make? Would be great to have more advice.

Around £25 should be about right for a regent- (my first clarinet was a regent.They are great little clarinets for beginners up to about grade 4.

The buffett make seeker showed should be fine or vandoran make good mouth pieces- just a word of warning- you will need to check it fits as some clarinets have a slightly different bore. Perhaps if you phone the shop they might know which mouthpiece will fit the boosey and hawkes make you have.

Whenever one of my students has an emergency I always call my tame repairer and tell them to expect a call.
