Anyone got any tips on what to look for?

Touch sensitive keys
same height from the floor as a piano
keys same size as piano
At least 5 octaves
sustaining pedal (can often be bought separately).

WE have something by Yamaha and it has about 6 fewer keys than a piano, touch sensitive keys etc... My old piano teacher reckoned it was fine for a beginner/intermediate player.

Could I just hijack this thread ever so slightly and ask what the going rate is for school piano lessons? DS is about to start too...

£62.50 for 10 lessons [15 mins] in se london

so 11 quid for 20 mins would be quite a lot then?

Going rate is about £14/15 for half an hour lesson. £11 sounds not unreasonable.
Definitely get Yamaha for a decently priced option- the sound is better than any other keyboard I have heard.

Check with the school teacher first. Some will not countenance an electronic keyboard.
