How to find a local piano teacher.

DS2 has finally decided he wants to learn. Hooray. How do I find a suitable teacher? How much might they charge per lesson? Will the teacher come to my house or will DS have to go there, normally?

I'm in Harpenden, Herts, in case anyone knows someone local.

Thanks in advance.

Can't help on the local front but I remember from my experience of starting to learn the piano at age 7, I first started with a woman who came into school and I HATED her. My mum then asked around amongst other mothers whose children played the piano and a few went to a local lady, who I learnt with for 10 years, I loved her and she was a brilliant teacher.

So - ask if school brings anyone in and ask other parents whose kids learn. And don't be afraid to look again if the first person doesn't work out!!

I bet there are loads in Harpenden. The general form is to go to the teacher's house. I pay £13 per half hour for each DS (eek). You do need a piano at home.
Ask around a bit or look at ads in the library. Music teacher on secondary school may know?

Our local music shops keep registers of Teachers.

ooh, I know one in St Albans, if you're struggling, but as Katisha says, there will be loads in Harpenden.

We pay £8 per half hour (but we are in S Scotland)

Tissy - thanks, I will see if I can find anyone in Harpenden but if I need to look further afield (St Albans) I will get back to you.

We do have a piano at home as DP plays.

Milliways -Good idea. There is an excellent music shop in St Albans, they might well be able to help. Thanks.
