Classical guitar lessons for ds - how much should I expect to pay for an acoustic guitar?

ds (7) is about to start guitar lessons at school.

Does £70 for 10 -13 lessons this term (15 minutes one on one) sound reasonable?

How much might we need to spend to get a basically decent guitar?

DS has guitar lessons at a Saturday Music Academy (posh name!) run by the LEA. It's £7.50 per half hour lesson, very small classes and he loves it, which for him (he has AS) is more important than racing through gradings.

Got his guitar at a local music shop - £45 for 3/4 size acoustic with bag, spare set of strings, tuning pipes and tuition dvd. I thought it was a good deal.

Have you tried ebay?

it depends on the make of guitar and the strings that are on it.

Do you want nylon or steel strung for instance?

and are the guitar lessons actually classical guitar or are they just guitar?

Its normally £15-£20 per half hour but in some cases its £13 for 15 mins (both weekly but diff schools, some lessons are shared)

It's for classical, 15 mins, 70 pounds per term which will be between 10 - 13 lessons ish.

depends a bit on what size guitar he needs, for instance is this an instrument he will be playing for a year or two before he outgrows it? They can sound very different.

I went to a reputable store which had a reasonable selection of guitars and let my dd try them. Since she plays violin and we had recently been trying 4/4 violins week after week to get the right one, she was very much accustomed to listening for sound anyway, so that helped her choose a sound she liked. I frankly wouldn't have had a clue. The guitar she chose wasn't expensive. It looks very simple but has a nice sound - from la mancha

I presume he will need a smaller one, so possibly your teacher has one he could borrow/rent/buy till he needs a bigger size. I would ask.
