Children’s swimming lessons? - what was your approach

My child is 4 and until recently, we did monthly fun swim at the pool (not formal lessons) in order to gain confidence/ fun.

I have enrolled him in weekly 1/2 hr group lessons and wouldn’t be able to go more frequently than this per week. I’m considering paying private 1:1 just in the hope he would learn faster

Also have a 2 year old and considering 1:2 when she’s a bit older.

Do you think 1:1/ 1:2 is good value considering this increased cost. The group lesson is currently £34 per month whereas 1:2 have been quoted £120? are these normal prices

I really want to get them both swimming asap for the best value. Any tips?

£34 per month is very cheap to me. Is £120 per month for both children? It's reasonable if so, as that's £60 per child and they will get more attention and time swimming.

We have always done group lessons but progress hasn't been super quick. I stopped DS for ages, as he was fed up and not really progressing. Now he has a lesson in a private pool with 3 or 4 in the class rather than 6. It costs me £65 per month. He is progressing well but he's also older now, which I think helps.

We did group lessons but I made sure that I took them swimming at least once more each week. We usually went twice more; family swim at the weekend and then I took each kid in the water while the other was having a lesson once each week. During that time, I got them to show me “how good they were” at the things they did in their lesson this week. And then we played with dive rings or similar. They progressed through the stages more quickly than others. Like everything, you have to practice or you forget easily. I wouldn’t pay for the 1:1 but I’d find a way to go more often if possible.
