I have been searching as somebody mentioned there was a chat thread on Mum‘snet, but I can’t seem to find anything current?

I think you are better off using one of the leader only FB groups to be honest. You can always use the anon nickname function if you don't want to post under your real name. The one called Girlguiding Programme Support Group is the most sane of them all.
