DoE silver- ideas for volunteering

Hi, my DS would like to do his silver DoE.
Last year he was a helper in a school but he did not like helping younger children so much Confused

He could work in a charity shop but he is not keen.

Can you tell me what your child did to give me some ideas?

My DS is not the outgoing type, more like the nerdy type. He did wrote in his application (unprompted) that he wanted to improve his social skills.
He is not into sports. He likes rap music and debating asbract concept with his Dad! He is very much into maths and physics and computing.

Thanks

Another one here at parkrun.

You don't have to be sporty for any of the volunteer roles - the only active ones are park walker and tail walker, both of which are (as it says on the tin) walking roles, plus course checker (walk, run or depending on terrain cycle). All others are stationary. Barcode scanning and timekeeping both require a smartphone and willingness to download the parkrun volunteer app.

They're a popular choice because there is no minimum age, and there are so many events now that you're almost bound to have one nearby.
