NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

Nice to see some BYMT auditionees beginning their journeys too - good luck to them all. Please report back!

If anyone can report back on either audition in Manchester today (N or B) I’d be very interested (even via pm if needed). Dd was at NYMT today but hasn’t told me a thing!!

Biscuitsneeded · 28/01/2024 14:59

@Alakazam8 Hope you've managed to prise some information out now. I also miss the days when DS used to tell me things!

@Biscuitsneeded Not.a.sausage. Unfortunately!!

MxPickles · 28/01/2024 16:51

@Alakazam8 Not got much to report from kiddo about BYMT Manchester as also at that age where "fine" seems to be a standard and complete answer!

She enjoyed the workshop session, said there were about 10 people in the group and that had told emails would be out early March. The long wait begins for us now!

Operasingerkath · 28/01/2024 18:40

Just home from NYMT at Wakefield-DS has had a really good day and enjoyed everything. He loved seeing his friends from last year and also working with the creative team. Fingers crossed now! Hope everyone else has had a good day too.

Montimom · 28/01/2024 18:43

Mine were all happy coming out, really enjoyed the audition day ❤️ it’s really a positive experience for them all which is great!! Fingers crossed now 🤞🤞

Biscuitsneeded · 28/01/2024 19:57

Pleased to hear that @Montimom and @Operasingerkath . Fingers firmly crossed for you!

Wonder if our DC were in the same group? I was told there were about 10 other as well. Hopefully Feb will go quickly x

Ds had a fab day at NYMT today and loved seeing familiar faces from NYMT and BYMT. Crossing fingers for everyone for the results.

Alakazam8 · 28/01/2024 22:27

Sounds like lots of happy young people following this weekend of auditions! Fingers crossed now for speedy and positive results….

Youarenotseriouspeople · 28/01/2024 22:51

Hello i'm new to this, my DD attended today's auditions for the first time - just wondered how long it usually takes to hear back?

Mcmumager · 28/01/2024 23:15

welcome @Youarenotseriouspeople was it NYMT? If so should know if they have a recall by the weekend.

If bymt I’m not sure of the latest turnarounds but I’m sure someone can help.

Youarenotseriouspeople · 28/01/2024 23:17

Hi @Mcmumager, yes NYMT - today's auditions. So they should know by the weekend - that's not too long to wait then thank goodness.

Mcmumager · 28/01/2024 23:18

How old is your dd? My ds was there today too. Hope she enjoyed it.

Youarenotseriouspeople · 29/01/2024 07:16

She did enjoy it. She's 17. I've read through the thread so trying to understand how it all works but decided to just go with the flow and see what happens - she said that they said everybody will be offered something from the audition but not necessarily an actual role so maybe a workshop?

Mcmumager · 29/01/2024 08:36

Yes my ds said that they said that too. There are a few changes this year as there are new people in charge but typically you will be informed as to whether you are invited to the recall weekend in Feb. At this you will be invited to recall for either a specific show or it could be a development workshop for a new musical. In the last couple of years people have also been invited to recall for a concert but this doesn’t seem to be taking place this year. This year there is a new thing called Platform which you could also be recalled for- it seems to be older kids being recalled for this.

As well as the shows which you audition for NYMT they have also ran residential workshops which you don’t need to audition for. These look like they’ve been redesigned this year with workshops for performers, backstage, creatives etc so I wonder if they mean if you aren’t invited to the recall process they mean you will be invited to attend one of these? Just guessing though!

Biscuitsneeded · 29/01/2024 15:19

@Youarenotseriouspeople I'm glad your DD enjoyed the audition. @Mcmumager has summed things up very well already. I think what your DD meant by 'they said everybody will be offered something' is that some people will get a recall for a show or shows, and some will get a recall for the new musical workshops (and for both of these they will need to audition again over the casting weekends). Those who don't get recalled for either of the above will be invited to join the skills workshops, but if they accept that offer they will be part of the NYMT company this year, may be invited to take part in some smaller events in the course of the year, and if I understand correctly can be part of the Christmas concert.

Good luck @Alakazam8 and DC for today! Hope DC has a great time - looking forward to hearing about it.
And Break a leg also to @Montimom 's DC and @Mcmumager and @Operasingerkath 's DC who I think have their auditions tomorrow? Hope I haven't missed anyone!

CLEARS THROAT LOUDLY… 😝

Biscuitsneeded · 31/01/2024 05:34

@allhailthebrain Oh I'm sorry!!!! AAAAH! For some reason I thought next weekend! How did it go for your DC?

OP posts:
allhailthebrain · 31/01/2024 14:50

Haha don’t worry @Biscuitsneeded - I quite enjoyed that 😂

Says it went well, always does though so we shall see! I shall be in the corner of the waiting room, overthinking and overeating 😉

Montimom · 31/01/2024 21:58

Does this feel like the longest week ever or is it just me 😂

allhailthebrain · 01/02/2024 01:57

Definitely loooong @Montimom

Not helped by 2.5 hours of parents evening - and having to listen to the chemistry teacher try and persuade my child that they would really prefer to do that over performing arts 😂

Nice try, lovely woman - but the closest my child is going to come to science is if Young Frankenstein is on the NYMT list in coming years…

Ooh I wonder if they've ever considered doing Young Frankenstein!!

I feel all of your pain. I find waiting for news so distracting! Fingers crossed the news will come tomorrow as it has in other weeks. My DS is apparently auditioning this weekend so he'll be doing the anxious wait next week. Anyone else got NYMT or BYMT coming up this weekend?

Never say never. My performing daughter who trained as a dancer is now going back to uni to study a science related subject. Ok, it's sports science (she wants to go down the rehab/injury prevention route but there is a heck of a lot of science content. (She has chosen to apply for courses that focus on the science, not in paying/coaching sport considering she hasn't done PE since year 6!
