SEND Afterschool Art Club

Hello everyone,
As an experienced SEND Art teacher, I've observed a need for more after-school activities specifically designed for our wonderful children with special educational needs. Recognising their incredible creativity and potential, I'm contemplating creating a dedicated Art Club for SEND children in our community.
The goal would be to offer them a nurturing space to express their artistic abilities, while also fostering an environment for social interaction, confidence building, and skill development. I believe this initiative could greatly enhance their after-school experience and personal growth.
I'm keen to hear your thoughts on this idea. Would you be interested in such an Art Club for your children? Any feedback, suggestions, or queries you might have are most welcome.
Thank you for your time.

My DS would love it, the only thing I can think to consider is the times and how that might interact with school transport (which many SEND children get if local mainstream isn't suitable).

If your based in the community, then maybe make the time a little later, to allow for taxi home, then turn around and back out (we'd struggle with anything before 5pm).

If your based at a particular school, then be aware parents who normally use school transport might not be able to collect their kids at the later time. Not sure what the answer would be there, unless the school has a mini bus you're able to access to get anyone home who needs it, but that might more complicated then you were bargain for.

This would be brilliant. After school may be tricky regarding transport and also just tiredness. A weekend would be great.

Definitely.

I echo the poster who said you need to consider school transport times.

School holidays, SEND parents are crying out for provision as there's rarely any locally.

A few businesses in my area offer a safe space for chn with SEND. See if you can hook up with these to get accommodation.

Think about energy levels, and what type of SEND you'll cater for.
