D of E - gold: Residential can it be before signed up?

So D did NCS at end of year 11 and then signed up for D of E Gold (didn't do Silver) in Year 12. Can we use the NCS as the residential, I thought so but friend thinks not? Anyone know?

Also I've assumed (but now doubting) that qualifying as a level 1 sports coach and then doing it whilst preparing for level 2 (which can't complete until 18) counts as a skill - again anyone know?

Thanks

No to counting anything that has been done before you have signed up

They need to learn a new skill, or show improvements.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a qualification. So, as an example you could choose learning to drive as the skills- it is about getting your instructor to sign off that your skills and abilities have improved over the time, not that you would have to have passed the driving test.

So if your dc has already done this L1 coaching certificate but isn't allowed to take the L2 as is too young, it might be possible to still improve his / her 'skill' by learning through experience........ to go back to the driving analogy, you can have done your 'theory' but now the actual 'putting it into practice' will be the increase in skill level.
Whatever they decide to do, it needs to be discussed with the people they are registered with - more so if it isn't something that can be objectively measured (say, moving from Grade 4 to Grade 5 on a musical instrument can). The people they are registered with get the decision on if they can count it or not.

Hi @reindeesandchristmastrees

We did exactly that with NCS. But DD registered for DofE Gold in September and added it in then (NCS was in July 22).

For the skills section, we have got their music tutor to fill in the report to say DD has made progress. DD did not take any exams to prove this.
