Hello, has anyone applied to this for their DCs? First rehearsal is meant to be in December but not heard anything since the applications went in. Have two kids who have applied (one on strings, one on brass) so would be good to know if I can save that money for Christmas presents instead if it’s not going ahead or if they don’t get a place. And also make plans over the Christmas holidays one way or another. Has anyone heard anything?

@LSSOaudition

My DD won’t miss Pro Corda for anything so she understands she might have to forgo an LSSO place if they are not happy with her availability.

I just find it quite strange when most musical ventures are organised so far in advance.

Let’s see what next week holds!

Just coming back to this - both DCs very happy to have been offered places. Just crossing fingers now that nothing gets scuppered by Covid. Currently thinking it will be a miracle if one or both of them doesn’t get it, or doesn’t get told to isolate as a contact or there’s not another lockdown.

I can’t remember how it felt to look forward to planning something without a constant underlying expectation that it’s not going to happen.

Great news!

My DD offered a place too. Looking forward to Sunday. She had Covid about 5 weeks ago so a guess the fear of her contracting it is reduced a little.

👍👍 - am crossing fingers it all goes ahead smoothly.

Hello! How did the rehearsals go last week with a new conductor? We had availability issues this year so didn't apply, but wish we had as these teenage musicians need all the ensemble experience they can get at the moment.

LSSOaudition · 24/12/2021 09:27

@dinosaurinmybelly - I know my DCs have really enjoyed the rehearsals so far. This is their first year with the orchestra so they have no comparison with previous years and no experience of the LSSO under Peter Ash. Am not sure what’s happening there. There is a lot of support for him.

Am hoping that there won’t be any more restrictions which would mean the rest is cancelled. Apparently last Sunday the conductor said if we going into a lockdown then he had enjoyed the 2 days with them all.

@dinosaurinmybelly

DD has only been able to attend one rehearsal so far and really enjoyed it. It’s her first year so nothing to compare to.

We too are waiting day by day to hear if all will be cancelled.

Anyone familiar with the London Youth Wind Band? They are running a course this February half-term.

@dinosaurinmybelly LYWB is a sister band to LSSO also run by CYM. They have concerts and a tour but don’t play at the Barbican.
