Anyone know about uniforms and badges for Guiding?

Do they have to have the polos/tshirts or can they just wear the hoodie and trousers? Are the rules dependent on the unit/leaders?

Do the badges from the previous section go on the new sections uniform too or not?

Sorry I never did guiding so don’t know. My 7 year old is just about to move up to Brownies and I’ve never had the chance to ask these questions due to the way it’s been run because of covid (she didn’t get a space at Rainbows until just before her 6th birthday so only been there a year – she borrowed a uniform for Rainbows as she was there so little time so I never put the badges properly on the uniform).

DD does not like the tshirts at all, she's spent most of rainbows in a borrowed hoodie as they had no tshirts to lend so wondering if she can carry that on with Brownies?

My daughter is now in guides, in brownie they had to wear the complete uniform so t shirt, jumper and the trousers , skirt or leggings. Guides is more relaxed and it’s just the t shirt and jumper. All badges from rainbows were put on the tabard or camp blanket. Brownie badges were on the sash which was never worn and camp blanket. Now in guides all badges apart from the pin badges go on camp blanket.

We had hoodies and scarf thingy only They do tons and tons of badges so I stitched them on a blanket that they would take to camps etc Girl guides is fantastic and I can’t thank the leader enough for the time she put into my children

Thanks both, got the email address for Brown Owl never thought to check with her but have emailed.

Ideally DD would wear the hoodie and trousers.

She's got her eye on a camp blanket for all her rainbows badges too.

Reply from Brown Owl

"Send her in whatever makes her comfortable, if she won't wear the uniform she won't be excluded from attending"

So i'll get the hoodie and she wants the hat. She can wear brown joggers which I have a few pairs of and I'll put a tshirt underneath her hoodie as she does have a few she'll wear.

Brilliant. Super excited for her now!

Nice to see Guiding being a bit more inclusive. 39 years ago, I was asked to purchase a navy blue skirt to wear with my uniform because my mid-blue skirt was unacceptable. As a family, we couldn't afford to buy a new skirt that would only be worn for 2hrs/week for three more years; so I left (after making a bit of a fuss about their attitude!)
