Residential music summer schools this year?

Is there ANY chance of them going ahead, does anyone think? DD is a keen regular at one but if it’s off this year as well, I could imagine her never getting back into it, which would be sad!

Is anyone here involved in the running of them, or has any info - or is it all just too early to say?

I don"t have any inside info, just posting to say I know how you feel. I am experiencing the same anxiety.

My DD was meant to be on a residential one but they decided in January it would be online sadly.

What instrument? Brass Academy, NCO and NCBB / NYBB all going ahead this summer. Though all subject to circumstances nearer the time.

She plays violin and piano; there is usually some singing but tbh she would be ok not doing that. Plenty of mixed ensemble sessions.

Sounds like we need to keep waiting (interesting about NCO etc) It’s normally booked and paid for in January. I don’t think she would do it if it were online only, which would be understandable.

The goalposts keep moving so much that it is probably impossible to state definitely that all things will happen. I think the intention is that, with a favourable Covid landscape, they will, but no guarantees as far as I can make out. I think the first step will be to get the junior conservatoires running again, consistently, on a Saturday.

I believe the usual string summer courses are planning/hoping to go ahead. Don’t know about piano.

A couple dd. Is due to do (string player) have already announced repelled purses - shorter in length with much less children; but all heavy caveats that may not go ahead . My instinct is smaller ones more likely to happen but 🤷🏻‍♀️

Viva strings in Sussex run by Rachel Cooper is planned in August- looks good!

NCO online has just started. It's running until 1st July. I think they are/were hoping to have some in-person rehearsals in May, but am not sure whether they are still considering that now.
We're also waiting to see what may happen with a summer youth orchestra course. We've paid a deposit, but there's no guarantees under current circumstances.

We just heard that the county ensembles tour is going ahead (UK only) which is good news. The trust director is very positive and “can do” about it all, so that has helped get all the rehearsal sessions sorted.

We would look at an alternative if her regular summer school doesn’t happen (Viva Strings looks excellent @Maryward ) but it’s much more difficult to integrate in as a teenager, than in primary, I think? I’m not sure she would want to do it, and I certainly wouldn’t force her
