Volunteering ideas at the moment

My DS is starting his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award but is struggling to think of opportunities for the volunteering part given the COVID restrictions at the moment.

He would have approached the local library or an animal rescue in normal circumstances, as these are the areas he is most interested in but likely to be difficult to get agreed during lockdown and he needs his plan to register complete for next week.

Does anyone have any ideas of alternatives that might be more suitable or examples of what their teens have done that might work please?

Does he already attend anything such as Scouts, where he could become a Young Leader?
Some of the YLs have been invaluable, supporting delivering on-line Scouting over the last 8 months.

Mine did young leader for Beavers a couple of years ago and I know other Explorers from his group are doing it now.

What about helping with the local Covid volunteer group?

Has he talked to the animal rescue? Dogs still need walking and that involves minimal contact with humans.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I will get him to ring a few of these places when he gets back from his dad's tomorrow

There’s some good ideas on the Dofe website at the moment - look for Dofe with a difference. How about organising a food bank collection point in your street? DofE also has guides for fundraising and awareness raising on the website. Supporting elderly or self isolating neighbours also counts
