If a peripatetic teacher cannot offer face to face lessons and online lessons are not suitable for the child, does the notice period apply?

I don't think so because your contract has been made based on in person lesson. At least my DD's teacher gave us a choice if we move to online or cancel the future lesson. It would be worth to talk with the teacher.

During our last lockdown the school offered us all a free "Teams" music lesson and then allowed us to decide whether to continue with weekly lessons or pause until face to face teaching was allowed.

It is probably going to depend on what you signed up for, but it seems unfair to penalise you if the teacher can no longer teach.

FWIW I thought the remote lessons were rather good. I am not sure DD was as chuffed at us being able to listen in because we could easily tell when she'd done zero practice!
