Competitive swimmers: school shirts to fit arms and shoulders?

DS is a competitive swimmer who has gained a lot of muscle in lockdown - puberty and body pump.

He will be 14 in the autumn. His M&S age 14-15 school shirts are fine in terms of arm length, body length and chest. They are ridiculously tight on his arms and shoulders.

I fear that the 15-16 will swamp him elsewhere; is there a brand of school shirts that works well for swimmers' shoulders and arms?
Any recommendations? It's really hard not being able to pop into M&S to try on. Thanks.

I have no real advice other than sympathy, having had this problem with girl and being tied to the official school uniform providers. Cost me a fortune in taking to the tailors!

Next school range looks pretty wide, and their returns policy/process has been good in past. So you can order lots of sizes/types, and return in store if postal returns are a hassle. Fitted shirts are swimmer’s friends for wider shoulders/narrow waists but can be costly, doubt if available at school level.

Good luck!

Are M&S's Plus Fit range any good?

I have a swimmer son and it's his thighs that cause the problem!

Not a swimmer but a slim DD with naturally broad shoulders who is a tumbler and does loads of upper body strength work. I find M+S slim fit but going up a size works best for us. It gives her shoulder space without being a tent everywhere else.

Maybe try ASOS and men's shirts, Topman, river island?

There where I get my DS trousers as he got massive quads!!

M and S shirts come in skinny fit/regular/plus fit so I'd try skinny fit in a size bigger or plus fit in his current size

Skinny fit in the next size up from M&S worked for my skinny waisted swimmer with broad shoulders and larger thighs.

Many thanks! We've ended up sizing up, as the skinny fit didn't really work, either.

He's going to have to suck it up and tuck in 3 km of shirt into his trousers!

(He has also grown out of his trousers on his thighs... ). Sigh.

I'm hoping the extra shirt length will keep her warmer under her skirt in winter 😂 obviously not relevant to your son though !!

I've had to buy men's shirts because school uniforms do not fit muscular DC. Have struggled since boycotting M&S but got some from a local 'outfitters' expensive but excellent quality and even ink stains wash out.
