When should DS wear a cricket box ?

DS has just started hard ball cricket and was given a list of kit for me to buy. One of them is a box to protect his private parts. I know he is supposed to wear it when batting. But does he wear it when fielding or if he is wicket keeping?

I have never played cricket in my life and wouldn't need a box even if I did!

Wicket keepers and any fielders standing close to the batter should wear them (as well as when batting of course!!)

Thanks Zodlebud. He won't know where he will be fielding in advance and they chop and change it a lot (unless he was chosen as wicketkeeper) so I guess that means he should always wear a box when playing cricket.

He should always wear a box when batting in the nets or in the middle, when keeping wicket or when fielding close to the wicket.

A hard cricket ball weighs 5.75 oz, or 163g and anyone with testicles really doesn’t want one smacking into them at speed...

This all makes sense. He obviously can’t put the box down his trousers if moved to field closer to the batter so it looks like he will wear it all the time.

DS wears one all the time when he is playing.

I agree. Most schools make the boys put them on when they get changed for P.E and they aren't allowed to remove them until back in the changing rooms.

The only time ds has received a cricket ball at speed into his testicles were when they were warming up. His coach expects them to arrive at training boxed up.

DS just wore his all the time.
