Brownies - badges to do at home. How?!

Hi all
Might be missing something but I couldn't see how to sort out doing badges out at home for my daughter.

She'd like to do the booklovers one. How does she "apply" as such?

Thanks

I think you follow the instructions on the website....and then take in the relevant evidence to the Brownie leader. But why don;t you just ask the Brown Owl? They will clarify.

www.girlguiding.org.uk/what-we-do/our-badges-and-activities/badge-finder/booklover/

That's the page for the book lover badge. It's being retired later this year apparently.

It refers to "the tester" as in "Show this to the tester' which must be Brown Owl. Ask though...they will advise.

It used to be there were testers for all sorts of brownie badges...my mum was one once and failed a brownie! Blush

By the start of the academic year 2019/20 Girl Guiding will switch to the new programme. The Booklover badge is not included in it. Your daughter can still do it if her unit has not switched over and Brown Owl has badges left or the local trading depot has some in stock. It would be a pity if she did it and couldn't have a badge. Speak to Brown Owl first who will also be the tester.

Brilliant thanks all.
I wasn't sure if it was done via the unit/brown owl or we had to submit evidence elsewhere. My daughter has asked me today but the unit meet on a Monday so I thought I'd put the feelers out before next week.

I can see it's being retired.. I'll speak to brown owl and see what she says!
Thanks!

My DD got her booklover badge last week; we go to the local library quite often, so she took her 'evidence' (book reports etc) to show the librarian, and she signed her book off as the tester. Then she took the signed off book to Brownies and got issued the badge.

(Did the same with swimming teacher for the swimming badge.).

@movehimintothesun when you say signed your book.. do you mean the badge book?

I hand out badges based on direct or emailed evidence or signature in book.
Does she have one of the new books yet? The new interest badges are much easier.

movehimintothesun · 02/04/2019 16:29

Yes, the librarian signed and dated the yellow badge book.

Old badges - the yellow ones with blue edges...
Full details on the GG website. Either old badge book or print off the webpage. Do what's asked. Take/ send evidence to Brown Owl. Must be done before end of summer this year.

New badges - 6 delicate pastel shades
Details in the new badge book only, apart from Inventor. Do what's asked. Take/ send evidence to Brown Owl.

Evidence - actual thing made. Photos or videos of thing being done. Signature of qualified instructor / teacher (eg Swimmer). Brownie should be able to talk about what they did & how they did it. Only 1 clause done when 3 are needed.

Eg - 2 lines in the school play with a bought script does not earn Performer badge. A salad doesn't work for Baker, nor does a packet cake mix. Gardener needs evidence that the plant actually f%$@ing grew. [All the same girl!]

BringOnTheScience · 03/04/2019 00:23

My "only 1 clause done when 3 are needed" line is in the wrong paragraph.
