Do I have to pay for annual membership and insurance for jujitsu?

DS attends jujitsu after school on a Friday. It is paid for half termly. It is run by Activ 8 and today I have received a letter that I need to pay for his annual insurance and club membership!! This was never mentioned when I signed him up for it in September 2018. He was hurriedly graded for his white belt and now I have been told that Activ8 pay the insurance until you are a white belt!! Surely, this should be covered by the fees I pay each half term? Any advice/ steer?

We have to pay that for gymnastics so it does sound plausible. But it was explained to us at the start.

Yep sounds plausible. I have to pay annual membership including money towards insurance for club swimming and lifesaving and used to have to pay it for karate. Rugby, cricket and football are monthly but they include insurance and membership of national governing body. I ont think they necessarily rushed white belt through to get you to pay as the money most likely goes to national governing body not the club themselves.

We had to pay for insurance, it covers the child if they get hurt or hurt someone while taking part in a full contact sport.

When ds went to karate there was an annual fee which covered something, can't remember exactly what, think it included membership /registration might have included insurance. He had a card in a plastic wallet that was updated every year and he had to take to any gradings.

For gym we always had to pay an annual insurance/membership fee on top. It was about £40

When ds did taekwondo there was annual membership & insurance of the relevant sporting body BTF.

DD does a martial art and yes you pay a membership fee and also annual insurance in addition to the lessons.
....you are required to have the insurance/licence (normally from the British Martial Arts Federation) in order to grade and without it they won't let you on the mat.

....although they should have mentioned this when he started!!!
