Hi @beckyy Sorry you're feeling meh about training. Is there anything specific you can think of that's changed/triggered the feelings, or something specific about the ALQ that you're struggling with?

ScopsOwl · 08/03/2020 13:00

@BiddyPop - we've a spare Kingfisher badge in our box, would you like it?

Wiltshire90 · 10/03/2020 06:25

Hi all,

So glad to have found this thread Grin

The new Guides unit I'm with spend a lot of time in the hut and I'd love to get out more with the girls. Has anyone got any good suggestions for non-hut activities? Either outdoorsy or visiting other places etc.

Hoping to suggest some things for the next planning meeting. Thanks in advance.

beckyy · 11/03/2020 19:00

Thank you Millicent, oh I was on a real downer when I posted but my next meeting was really productive and I feel much better now.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 11/03/2020 22:26

Oh glad you are feeling better beckyy! Remember if you ever need a private chat to sound of in, I'm sure several us would be happy to lend an ear/keyboard. Sometimes just having a good old rant helps!

Becles · 12/03/2020 08:12

We've been a bit quiet lately.

Census paid and of course the evening of lockdown got told a girl loved us but was struggling to fit in activities (if you will have her doing 9 after school activities a week) Shock. Same week another two left including one I'd been chasing for subs grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Groovee · 16/03/2020 21:45

Latest update from GG. All units suspended. I believe Scouts are the same.

I'm both sad about this and relieved. At least the decision is taken out of my hands, but very sad that it's come to this...

user1487194234 · 17/03/2020 06:20

Does anyone know if this includes camps

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 17/03/2020 06:40

I know in my county it's everything. Until past Easter. Meetings, camps, events, trainings. I suspect the same advice from GG. If meetings are unnecessary social contact, camps are sadly more just by dint of being more contact to start with.

Becles · 17/03/2020 10:20

Everything cancelled and we have to let the DC know when parents notified. Got pgl in April Sad and trying to rebook for later in the year.

Groovee · 01/04/2020 15:44

Hi everyone, how are we all doing? I've sent out one activity in time for our meeting time for the girls to do at brownie time as that is what the parents wanted. It looks like I'll need to go to work next week to help look after children on the front line. So I have the next activities to allow them to continue on.

I'm on the Lone Guiding group on FB and I've got some of the UMA activities from there and put them on our FB group with a 'absolutely no need to do these if you don't want to, but here are some things to help you keep the kids involved if you're interested' message, asking them to send me any photos and I'll award minutes. I've had about 10 girls do stuff out of 24. Suspect I'll get a few more over the Easter "holidays".

user1487194234 · 02/04/2020 11:37

TBH I have temporarily come off the local Guiders FB page ,as some of the Guiders keep posting about all the stuff they are doing on line for their Brownies.

I feel so bad about it but I am working FT DC at home to help with school work and an elderly parent to shop for

I had my programme all worked out until June, but it doesn't easily (at all !) convert to on line

I really don't have any head space for Brownies at present ,and when I see FB messages from those who have,it really discourages me and makes me want to pack it in all together

I appreciate this is not logical ,but my stress rates are very high

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 02/04/2020 13:09

I'm sorry to hear that user, and please don't feel bad! There are many, many of us who are not being SuperGuider and doing wonderful online meetings. Literally all I'm doing is sending out a few bits that other people have created. But it's also ok if even that is too much. Now isn't the time to try and be Super Leader. Look after you, yours and your mental health. Guiding can wait. Hugs.

user1487194234 · 03/04/2020 06:41

Thank you

Groovee · 04/04/2020 22:59

I've found the lone group great for the stuff I can't manage.

All I've done is save stuff as a draft in the email so I can just send it out.

User are you the only leader? Myself and another leader are keyworkers and our third leader keeps whinging about life. My dd is working on stuff for her LQ so she'll be taking over from me as she is literally stuck at home with no uni work, no placement and both her jobs have said they have no need for her.

I'm only sending out emailed 'meetings'. My head is full already with work, home and dc trying to homeschool. Brownies is an escape, but I am trying to set my limits and this is one.

Noodledoodledoo · 29/04/2020 19:15

Hi all. I haven't posted on this page before but wanted to share what I have just set up. I am with the ones of you who are struggling to add more into daily life, I am a secondary teacher with a 5 and 3 year old to entertain as well!

I have been feeling very guilty reading about all these amazing zoom meetings but I am working most evenings catching up on the work I can't do during the day. other leader is also working to keep her business going and third one has taken on a night shift in Tesco!

We have a gmail account for guides and I have just set up a google classroom. On this I am now setting things like parts to a challenge badge - one we had started so have the badges already, can can set things like UMA's or SB activites as I feel.

I have not used it before and I managed to set it up in about an hour. Happy to help others out if you want.

InflagranteDelicto · 10/06/2020 23:10

Catching up with the thread, how's the Google classroom working for you Noodle?

I've scrolling past all the zoom/activity pack stuff. I don't have headspace for any more than I'm doing.

Noodledoodledoo · 11/06/2020 19:01

6 signed up, zero engagement since!!!!

Doing my second zoom tonight - we did one 3 weeks ago, work commitments for leaders currently prohibitive.

We sent a challenge badge out with some sunflower seeds out of 23 I have seen 2 pictures!

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 12/06/2020 13:20

Please don't be downhearted by lack of engagement. I had very little for activities I sent home but have had more success on zoom. Which is not meant to be in any way guilt inducing. It's taken me three months to get my head around doing zoom meetings and it just so happens that I'm now feeling in a slightly better place and feel able to. If you don't, don't sweat it.

MrsFionaCharming · 27/06/2020 20:09

I’ve been doing weekly zoom meetings for my Guides. They seem to enjoy and appreciate it but I hate it! There’s not as much engagement from them in discussions, and it’s harder for them to interact with each other, so I spend a lot of time feeling like a kids TV presenter. It’s so much harder than meeting in person where you can set a game / group activity and just let them get on with it.

On the plus side, we’re now doing much better on the new programme, as we can still do all the boring “discuss in groups” type stuff we wouldn’t waste time on in a proper meeting.

Becles · 16/07/2020 22:09

Last zoom meeting of the term. Mixed feelings of relief and a bit of sadness about the uncertainty.

Anyone else confused by the email from hq?

Groovee · 01/08/2020 14:31

I have no idea what's happening with guiding here in Scotland. We return to school on the week of the 10th. Everything has felt like it's all down south based rather than supporting us.

I reckon census will go up again. We already have a higher census as we pay CHQ, SHQ and county and it was £42.50 this year. From what I can gather from the email, they have lost out on income of 4 million due to their outdoor centres et all being closed, but I don't think it means they are £4 million in debt. Scotland kept their online shop open so had orders going out daily.

I just don't know if I want to return yet.
