Traditionally for many years MN has had an audition thread; so here it is as the auditions start in a few days 😀

OP posts:

Good luck to DCs of Trumpet and Musicdoc!

owlm · 13/10/2018 09:32

Hope auditions go really well today!

ZakStarkey · 13/10/2018 11:16

Ooh and Trumpet- can’t keep up...

TrumpetVoluntary · 13/10/2018 14:54

Good luck everyone for this week. DD’s audition (for U11s) is in half term.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes.... a nice audition experience for my two today - having an official warm-up time and plenty of space to practice before the warm-up time seemed to help. I saw lots of smiling children after their auditions (and accompanied a few of them) - makes it worthwhile, whether they are successful or not.

Rupertswife · 13/10/2018 21:34

Well done minis-Eroica, and musicdoc! And good luck to those with auditions coming up! Hope those last practices go well Smile

PatricksViolin · 14/10/2018 00:01

Hope someone can help me...

I think I received email or letter with the audition details last time. It was very clearly noted what time to arrive, etc. However, I haven't received any this year and all I have is the digital booking ticket which shows me (or remind me!) the date and the venue but doesn't say the time for warm up/actual audition time. Is it the seat number...??

I may have to call NCO to find out the details. But I was wondering if it was only me who didn't get a letter/email (I don't remember which one!) this year...

Musicdoc · 14/10/2018 00:16

Hi Patrick
I received confirmatory emails on 4th October re: time and venue of audition. I would ring Harriet in the NCO office on Monday just to check.... (and also check your junk mailbox).

PatricksViolin · 14/10/2018 00:25

Thanks Musicdoc. So you received a confirmation email 10 days before the audition? Mine is two weeks away. Perhaps it's on way then... I'll call the office on Monday just in case. DS is auditioning for U12, the same as your younger one. Smile

Eroica · 14/10/2018 09:28

Our NCO confirmation was also about 8 days before audition.

Musicdoc · 14/10/2018 09:49

Good luck miniPatrick

Trumpetboysmum · 14/10/2018 09:51

Yes Patrick I only got official confirmation about a week before . But I’d give them a call anyway . I agree it was good to have a good warm up slot etc . Just a pity we had to go to a venue 3 hours away !! a long wait till December now !! Good luck to all those with auditions next week and at half term

PatricksViolin · 14/10/2018 11:42

Thanks all. I will call NCO tomorrow (must note this somewhere as I keep forgetting these small but important jobs). I need to confirm the time for the pianist...

Lotsofmilkonesugar · 14/10/2018 14:06

Hi patrick I phoned them on Friday with the same question... they said the seat number on the receipt is your warm up time, but do phone them to check! We’ve not received an email either but it’s still over a week away...

PatricksViolin · 14/10/2018 15:12

Ooh, it's warm up time!!? How long do we have for warm up? Hope it's no more than 15 mins. The pianist has to dash out as soon as she finished playing with DS...I guessed it's DS's audition slot so thought it should be fine as audition won't last more than 10-15 mins usually. I might have to cancel the pianist...

Trumpetboysmum · 14/10/2018 15:35

Yes it’s 15 minutes warm up then play . It was all pretty slick and running to time yesterday though hope the accompanist works out - ds always plays without one because we have to travel such a long way to audition

PatricksViolin · 14/10/2018 16:28

Thanks Trumpet. I'll double check with the accompanist and depends on her schedule we may have to cancel her but it's not the end of the world as we don't normally use accompanist neither (but prob a bit annoying for her as we have already booked her for the day).

Doubleup · 14/10/2018 21:58

Patrick we received the e-mail from Harriet Rabin 26 days before the audition date. Check through your e-mails for one from Harriet - and maybe check your junk folder if you can't find it.

Radiodependent · 15/10/2018 08:41

Hello, just noticed this thread. Ds (9), double bass is auditioning for under 10s on 28th at gsmd. We haven’t received an email yet either, will ask them at regionals on Saturday. Last year Ds did training and south easterlies. He’s not sure about the residential thing again (though he made friends so that might influence him) but auditioning for regionals so we will see. He is extremely laid back so far, not sure if that’s good or not!

Radiodependent · 15/10/2018 08:42

I mean auditioning generally obviously but he is keener on regional than residential at the moment.

Doubleup · 17/10/2018 00:00

DD2’s audition done. She seemed fairly happy with it although had a little glitch when her reed managed to work its way off towards the end of her second piece. The accompanist kept going, DD sorted it out within two beats and came back in at the right place, so hopefully they will view it as a quick and unfazed recovery... Time will tell.

Double, I not think she needs to worry about that sort of blip. These things happen ( water in keys strings breaking etc) but it's how you deal with them - and she sounds like she coped brilliantly.x

Doubleup · 17/10/2018 07:19

Crazy, she said that the piano and bassoon shared the tune at that point so it didn’t sound quite so awkward. She didn’t seem bothered and came out smiling. Probably not fitted as securely as it might have been. A learning experience if nothing else.
