Traditionally for many years MN has had an audition thread; so here it is as the auditions start in a few days 😀

Teabiscuit, is there any local provision for young people? My DS had the opportunity of JD but the local provision is so good we didn't think JD was worth the extra £££. He plays in Orchestras and Wind Bands and does his theory there too. Got 99% in his G5 theory so the teaching is clearly OK! Have a Google to see if there's anything local to you. We pay less than £50 a term for everything - I think that's a bargain compared to JD!

moralvictor · 12/12/2018 18:12

tea The extra provision is really expensive. Our local teacher, who was excellent, recommended that our daughter audition for Royal Academy Primary Academy. We knew very well that we couldn't afford this, but we also knew that there were scholarships and bursaries available. If you don't shoot you don't score was our attitude. Our DD auditioned and was offered a place, and then we applied for a bursary and got a very decent discount. It doesn't make it easy but it does make it possible. Where we live there are zero opportunities for chamber or ensemble playing for primary age kids (or at least for kids her age and her level), and this is what she needed more than the slight improvement in the teaching. She went into the audition process with full knowledge that she might be offered a place but she still might not go. We are now beginning a new round of applying for funds and grants to make up the difference for the academic year 2019-20.

tea we have a friend who was u12 violin last year, after u10 and u11- he hasn’t yet taken g7.

What about looking for small, local run music festivals to enter for polishing and performing opportunities? X

Congratulations new u11s. Love to those who are disappointed tonight xx

Nigglenotes · 12/12/2018 19:41

For those who are disappointed, this is the third year of trying for us, and now successful. 1st year was a no, 2nd year was regionals, and now u11s.

Normal village primary here. And did change teacher when the first one was not really on board.

Trumpetboysmum · 12/12/2018 19:52

Niggle yay !! I’m so pleased I knew she’d do it this year !! Smile

So i haven’t had an email yet... DD was 10 two weeks ago (year 5) and auditioned for harp with G5 pieces. I didn’t think she would get in this first time, but we should have heard by now I think? Are results still coming out this evening?

OK, so if yesterday and today are anything to go by tomorrow will be U12s and Friday U13s. But Harriet's email said we'll all hear by Friday so there needs to be doubling up if Main will hear by Friday too?

folkmamma · 12/12/2018 21:01

Mimu, check your junk folder??

Pippap1 · 12/12/2018 21:02

Hi mimu, my DD turned 10 about 2 weeks ago and she is in U10, so your DD should be in U10. I don’t know but maybe your DD would be given scholarship by the outstanding audition performance etc(?), so the outcome mail would be sent separately from others?

I know waiting is so frustrating but it is nearly Thursday now. You can ring them after Friday if you would not hear anything by then.

mimu · 12/12/2018 21:07

Pippap1 that made me laugh out loud! I think it is far more likely that I am going to have to email next week to get the sorry news.... (ringing would be just too sad ) the scenario of how to make a sad situation worse....
Nothing in junk folder folkmamma.

Josamac · 12/12/2018 21:15

One of my Dd’s Friends hasn’t heard today either for U11’s. Maybe not all out yet....

Wafflenose · 12/12/2018 21:17

Scholarships have been left until very very late in some previous years.

Nigglenotes · 12/12/2018 21:21

Mimu, 10s are done, call tomorrow as there has been a miscommunication. The office would rather know now, so it can be checked and resolved.

Trumpetboysmum · 12/12/2018 21:36

Oh I do hope we hear by Friday - but it’s a massive job that they have to do .
Definitely phone on Friday Mimu I’m sure like Niggle said they would want to know if someone had been missed off .
And yes scholarships have heard last in the past

mimu · 12/12/2018 21:53

Thanks, I will wait until Friday I think. It must be a huge admin job ( but there can’t have been hundreds of harps to administer)

Musicdoc · 12/12/2018 22:11

Brilliant news for all those who heard they were successful in getting into U11s today! Congrats niggle, goes to show that hard work and determination pays off. We were thinking U12s would be out today and U13s and Mains tomorrow, given that they said if we hadn't heard by Friday then we could ring them....
So still waiting for U12s and hoping it's tomorrow.... and then Mains on Friday. We have put a couple of other things on hold until we have heard - wish it didn't take so long!

Doubleup · 12/12/2018 22:55

Just had an e-mail at 10.30pm offering DD2 a place in U12s on bassoon! Someone is burning the candle at both ends! DD is quietly pleased Smile. Her teacher is happy too.

mimu · 12/12/2018 23:03

email came now at 10-50 pm!! Not a standard one — U11! it means she can be part of a section and they think she will cope well with the standard. I think she should be fine with slightly older children too (hope so). Good luck everyone tomorrow and thanks for advice etc.

Wafflenose · 12/12/2018 23:11

I can't believe they are sending emails at this time of night! Wow! Well done to the latest bunch. There are usually a few children out of year group and I think it will be fine.

UtopianWorld · 12/12/2018 23:18

Hi @doubleup, Congratulations! Bassoon is a difficult instrument for 11 years, which grade is your little one. Is this her first attempt?

Do you think all u12 string results are out?

Doubleup · 12/12/2018 23:20

Well done to all those who have been offered places in national and regional orchestras and for those that haven’t this time round, I hope that won’t deter them from trying again next year. Good luck to those yet to hear!

ZakStarkey · 12/12/2018 23:22

U12’s violin here- email came at 1038pm but I was on a train- went to see Ray Chen- play Bruch- he was fantastic!!

Doubleup · 12/12/2018 23:26

Hi Utopian, she’s Grade 7 having been playing since the age of 8. She has done U10s and then U11s twice due to the change to dates to align with the school year. Enjoyed every one so far Smile
