I’ve got three students going for it this year. They’re all in Bristol today. Anyone else?

DD has been offered Little Princess and is thrilled. I am very happy for her, but less thrilled about the Easter rehearsals!

EvilTwins · 23/02/2018 08:32

That’s brilliant news jan! Well done to your DD.

That's great janinlondon

Why don't you like the Easter rehearsals? Are you meant to be going on holiday?

janinlondon · 23/02/2018 10:22

No - she has A levels coming up straight afterwards!! I know lots of GCSE and A level kids dont do NYMT because of the Easter commitment. We will just have to juggle (madly!!)

NotEnoughTime · 23/02/2018 15:37

I see!

My DS has got his GCSE's this May so I know how you feel! He has promised me that he will spend the whole of the first week of the Easter holidays studying so I'm hoping that he will keep his word.

janinlondon · 26/02/2018 10:52

NET - I have been fed a similar line! I suspect I am a muppet for believing her...!

NotEnoughTime · 26/02/2018 14:48

jan Grin

Seriously, I'm so excited although nervous about the residential stay in London. I presume they will be chaperoned/supervised in the accomodation (I think it is Uni accomodation as obviously it will be summer then so the Students won't be there) I just have visions of my DS wandering around London on his own Confused please hand me a grip

janinlondon · 26/02/2018 15:24

NET - I noticed that the London week is not catered, so I am guessing there will be a fair bit of fending for themselves, and accomm at UCL means tube journeys to and from the venue, BUT he will ALWAYS be in a group with others, so no need to worry. DD would actually be closer to the venue if she stayed at home in that week, but I dont imagine I'd have any luck suggesting that to her. They have the time of their lives. He will be a seasoned Londoner by the end! I AM wondering if there is a single night in the middle (between residential and going to London) where there is no accomm? Sevenoaks ends for us on 5th and UCL starts on the 6th. Please tell me we dont have to have them back for one night!?? Where are they sleeping on the 5th?? Does your acceptance email look the same (but with different dates)?

NotEnoughTime · 26/02/2018 15:59

jan-I've PM'd you Smile

Biscuitsneeded · 28/02/2018 19:35

Ooh I've just found this thread! Congrats to all successful DC and students. EvilTwins, we have spoken before and I am so pleased your student has finally got in! Huge well done to him. Proof that persistence pays off and it isn't a closed shop as some people seem to believe. He'll have an amazing time. My DS has also got into Sleepy Hollow so will see your student and NET's DS there. DS has done NYMT twice before and last summer he did Imaginary in London so I can answer any Qs about the London bit - but in essence, yes they are really well looked after and UCL is a fab base, and yes I'm afraid you do get them back for one night in between residential and production week, but if they don't live anywhere near Sevenoaks/London they usually make friends with somebody who does and get themselves invited! (Although both times DS has done NYMT I was quite glad to get him back for one night and wash some of his clothes!!).JanIn London, I know it's a big deal in A level year BUT I think these young people are very motivated types. Your DD will probably revise just as effectively in one week knowing she's had an amazing time at NYMT as an other young person who just fritters the holiday away kidding themself they're revising!

EvilTwins · 28/02/2018 22:33

That’s brilliant for your DS biscuits! I’ll definitely be going to see Sleepy Hollow. So thrilled that he’s finally got into a show. He did the gala last year but this is so much better!

Thanks for all the info biscuits needed - it's really helpful and has put my over active mind at rest.

It's "The Beautiful Game" that my DS has got into so he won't be seeing your DS although I would like to take mine to see "Sleepy Hollow" and "A Little Princess" so hopefully we will see all your superstars then Smile

janinlondon · 01/03/2018 13:23

I am devastated about the one night back between rehearsal and London! (Badmother, badmother). Biscuits (I am forgiving you your optimism over A levels.....!!) can you clarify - are they allowed to travel to and from Sevenoaks without us? (Pleeeeeeease say yes!)

Biscuitsneeded · 01/03/2018 22:33

Yes I'm sure they are allowed to travel alone if they're deemed old enough by parents, which at age 17/18 you would hope they would be!! NET sorry I misunderstood about the show for your DS, but The Beautiful Game will be amazing. DS will be in Sevenoaks rehearsing that week, but I will probably come and watch anyway! Really looking forward to summer now.

NotEnoughTime · 02/03/2018 22:26

No worries biscuits

I'm going to try and see as many shows as I can. I bet they are all going to be fab.

janinlondon · 05/03/2018 16:21

BISCUITS! Help meeee pleeease!! This is an even more ridiculous question - DD has to sing evensong at Canterbury on 2 April and be in Sevenoaks on 3 April. You dont by any chance have a vague recollection of what sort of time they expect them to arrive down there do you? The logistics are doing my head in....I could ring NYMT but you are far more clued up! I am presuming some sort of joining instructions will eventually arrive.....

Biscuitsneeded · 05/03/2018 16:46

Don't panic! Yes, joining instructions will come soon by email. Usually they have to be there at 11am, so very doable from Canterbury if you're there overnight, or equally easy from London. Have you or your DD joined the Facebook group for A Little Princess yet? You'll be emailed all the vital info, but you can also ask these kinds of questions in the group (although I am very happy to answer when I can!) and you'll find everyone very friendly and helpful, I'm sure. Don't hesitate to ask any more questions of me either.

janinlondon · 06/03/2018 09:31

Oh she's doubtless on the facebook group page - but her timetabling is so complex that I still do it (I AM relinquishing this when she leaves home!!!). She would just expect to wake up in her own bed and get on a train to Sevenoaks. What happens before and after is a mystery to her. Thanks for advice. Late morning start would work well.

Biscuitsneeded · 10/03/2018 11:47

Hopefully the joining instructions are now on your Facebook group, as DS has his, and his was the last group to be created.

janinlondon · 12/03/2018 09:21

Thanks Biscuits - I will quiz the child!

janinlondon · 12/03/2018 10:42

Thanks for the headsup Biscuits - she has now forwarded it to me.

Biscuitsneeded · 09/04/2018 17:56

JaninLondon, I hop your DD had an amazing time and now has her nose buried in her revision (or is she asleep???). I just dropped my DS off this morning for his NYMT week. He couldn't wait to get there. Looking forward to seeing all the shows in the summer.

Biscuitsneeded · 16/07/2018 00:52

JaninLondon, I'm really keen to know what your DD thought of her Easter experience. We're coming to watch Princess on the opening night - looking forward to it. Hope her A-levels went well and that you enjoy the show in August! EvilTwins, hope your student is happy about Sleepy Hollow. DS says the music is beautiful.

EvilTwins · 26/07/2018 13:38

Biscuits - yes, he loves it! He’s just spent 2 months in Thailand and is now back and excited about it. I’ve booked to see it - can’t wait! Then he’s off to LIPA. It’s been a pretty exciting year for him!

OP posts:
Biscuitsneeded · 26/07/2018 13:59

I'm glad he's enjoying it - I think I've worked out who he is! I can't wait to see it either. I think my DS only has a small role but he is just so happy to be involved again. Not long now!
