Football: Can someone explain school teams to me?

I'm clueless about Football. At DC's school there are three types of teams and I have no idea how they are organised and who plays in each. Can someone help?

There are Colts (A,B,C), then the 1st, 2nd etc and then the U11's, U10's etc.

Are the Colts teams the best players then the 1st, 2nd etc teams and then everyone else gets lumped in an age group team eg. U11's? Or are the Colts and the 1st types of teams for different sorts of matches?

Also, what sort of teams play at a Festival?

If you don't feel that you can ask someone connected to the team then ask a player's parent. I think that you need local knowledge for this.

I could, but i just feel a bit stupid asking them as I really ought to know.

Why ought you to know? It's not the sort of thing they dish out at parent and baby class. Find a friendly parent and ask to have it all explained to you.

I just feel a bit stupid asking, that's all! Partly because it feels silly to ask now when DC has been doing this for years!!

I am assuming that you are an independent school with a prep up to yr 8 and then senior school too.

The set up at ours is 1sts and 2nds are the sixth form teams. In yr 9-11 they would be U14s, U15s, U16s

In Prep School the year 8 or mixed year 7/8s Would be Colts A (highest ability) to B,C,D, etc going down in ability. Then the Year 6s down would be U11s, U10s etc

I assume a Festival would be the same as a tournament and usually it would be the higher ability teams that would represent the school at this.

However there will usually be fixtures through the football seasons for each of the teams against schools who are able to put out similar ability teams.

So a larger school B team may play a smaller school's A team.
