Subs for brownies/cubs

Twistmeandturnme · 21/07/2017 11:02

Can I please ask how much you pay each term/year for brownies or cubs, and whether this includes annual census payment/any materials/badges/trips etc?
I'm getting mixed feedback from my Brownie parents (I'm a Brown Owl) and although I'm pretty sure we are average locally, I'd like a broader view.
Thanks

We pay £132/term hall rent, and census is probably about £32 next year. We are likely to increase to £38/term for Guides next year.

LinaBo · 21/07/2017 22:40

Although we give the price per week, our subs are paid either half termly or per term - it just isn't a fixed amount, it varies according to how many meetings we have in a particular term. Missed weeks are still charged. Our Brown Owl is retiring, I think the new LIC is thinking about introducing standing orders.

skyzumarubble · 21/07/2017 22:43

£30 per term for rainbows. Covers everything apart from big trips e.g big rainbow and brownie day gathering. There was a £15 joining fee too.

skyzumarubble · 21/07/2017 22:46

Meant to say I think it's cheap for what they actually get / do!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 21/07/2017 22:46

We've got a cub and a scout and each pay £10 a month.

That covers everything except uniform and camps.

Great value IMO.

OverAndAbove · 21/07/2017 22:48

We pay £30 per term for brownies and £35 for guides. It covers basic activities but there are quite a few we pay extra for. It was ages before I realised they could claim gift aid.

Actually I'd happily pay more as it compares well with other activities and I know it's stressful for all the leaders, balancing the books.

DropZoneOne · 21/07/2017 22:53

£25 a term for Brownies. Includes census, badges and weekly activities. Optional Brownie camp and away day was extra.

The local guiding groups do 3 fundraisers a year though, DH is involved in 2 of them, and we support with raffle donations, buying tickets and refreshments etc. We couldn't make the last one so I donated the money I would have spent anyway.

wheresthel1ght · 21/07/2017 22:56

I am a guide leader currently but have done brownies...

Our unit pays £10/half term and the £24 for annual census. Badges etc are all covered by the subs and gift aid however additional activities are billed separately if kids want to take part.

The scouts I was helping with for a while charged £32/term but they didn't then charge separately for annual census.

in my 21 years of running units subs has varied hugely. Ultimately a lot is driven by the cost of the rent for the meeting place.

Beavers - £12 per month, standing order all year round. Covers everything except camps
Cubs - £16 per month standing order all year round. Covers everything except camp. Also £10 joining fee which gives you necker etc.

Rainbows - £12 per half term cash plus census when it's due.

All good value for what my DC get out of it.

Witchend · 21/07/2017 23:15

£35 per term. They usually have a trip at the end of term that covers this. Any big overnight camps usually are extra, but everything else is included.

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2017 23:22

£16/month (all year round) for Beavers, Cubs or Scouts. Includes everything for indoor activities, or outdoor trips local. to the hut. LaserTag, Museum sleepover, camp and other trips away extra.

CrystalQueen · 22/07/2017 17:39

£75 a year for our Guides. This includes census and badges, but not residentials (we often subsidise these from our funds though, depending on numbers). We don't tend to do other trips but we used our funds to cover leaders' costs for the Tartan Gig this year and charged the Guides the ticket + bus price. The fees haven't changed in the 5 years I've been helping.

Rainbows 24.00per term badges free plus a joining fee of 20.00 given bag and book. Trips extra. Guides 37.00 per term badges free no joining fee as moved up. No books. Brownies similar no books. They don't pay for hall rental etc.All trips extra.

minilifecrisis · 19/08/2017 13:27

We do £30 per term including census, but not sure we can stay at that rate for much longer. We claim gift aid too.

I find it harder and harder to get people in to visit us for free and I like to do a good spread of activities to make sure we have a varied programme.

Becles · 04/09/2017 22:20

We charge £30 a term for brownies inc census. We're looking at increasing subs to £35 in January as the annual census is having a massive hike next year from HQ with upward trajectory for the next couple of years.

We absolutely don't do fundraising for any running costs apart from the events we organise to raise money for other charities or supporting the local community.

Groovee · 05/09/2017 14:05

We have changed somethings since I posted last. Our census per head has jumped from £33 to £37. For this reason we have decided to charge for trips now rather than pay for them out of subs. The £100 we charge for a year is still going to cover that £37 in March.

happy2bhomely · 05/09/2017 14:17

We pay £30 a term. We pay cash at the beginning of the term. This includes the census and badges and includes some very small local trips and sports day.

We pay extra for Brownie camp and pantomime.

Every parent is expected to be a parent helper at least once a term. I do the cleaning of the lodge at the end of Brownie holiday and help at sports day. I'm 'on call' so that if another parent can't make it, then I help out at short notice.

It is a fantastic group and is very good value for money compared to other clubs and activities.

Wildaboutoscar · 15/10/2017 17:09

We charge £10 per month including census , all activities on meeting nights. Eg we have done climbing, archery , ice skating, planetarium.
We charge £12 for initial bag and books.
Our census is £33 - a bit concerned by earlier poster who said it’s going up next year ??

yaela123 · 22/10/2017 20:47

I am a Brownie leader and we are really lucky that we get the church hall completely rent free so only charge £15 per term (3 terms per year = £45 per year) plus uniform and some special trips are extra. We're in London as well!

But I understand that we are really fortunate to have this and most places need to charge more and some parents still don't remember to pay

yaela123 · 22/10/2017 20:49

This is the same for the local Rainbows and Guides btw

ChocolateWombat · 22/10/2017 20:56

What fantastic value all of this is! Where else would you get 1.5 or 2 hrs of quality activity for around £2? I find it amazing that badges are included and sometimes local trips too.

I guess it's different to other activities as the leaders are volunteers, so pay isn't added into the price charged.

Thank you to all you Brown Owls, other Owls and Guide or Scout leaders. It's much appreciated.

QueenofLouisiana · 23/10/2017 23:09

£45 a term for all scout sections here. Includes everything during a normal meeting and census and badges. So my beavers get a few “paying” trips a year (eg climbing wall, bowling, Indian restaurant) covered, Scouts get a boat shed full of boats to play with.
We meet for 90 mins a week and include a drink and snack.
