ASA swimming stages

We returned to the UK recently and
Dd age 4 (preschool still) joined a private swim school here where she has completed one half term. She's quite a strong swimmer as she had lessons for a year where we lived abroad.
At the end of the half term they awarded her a stage 2 certificate and badge - as we've not done badges or stages before I'm not sure how quickly she would expect to move through the stages? Is this a standard stage to be at for her age? How
Often roughly do they spend on a stage? Thanks for any info - all new to us!

I have 4 dc and tbh they all pass through at different times. You need to pass every stroke to pass a stage and one dc has sat for months at 98% trying to go from 'good' to 'pass' at breast stroke. I've even had them skip a stage at times (two skipped stage 3. I didn't start each dc until they were 5, but I've noticed that by about 8, they all seem to level out a bit. At higher stages they need to swim with their clothes on, take clothes off in water - I guess they need a certain level of strength for this.

Quite quick until stage 5, many get stuck there as it's quite an increase in skills and stamina.

Stage 2 is about right for 4. As others have said, different children progress at different rates. DS (8) probably goes up a stage twice a year (he is currently 75% of the way to Stage 7). DD probably twice as long, it took her over a year to get Stage 3.

I think the awards might have a different sponsor since DD(9) did them.

I reckon we used to get a badge per term (so 3 per year; we'd get a distance award if we didn't move a grade) starting at one of the duckling awards.

Looking back, I can see that it is a good idea not to rush through the higher grades that focus on perfecting strokes and turns (DD now has beautiful strokes - it makes it far less tiring doing longer distances) so don't worry about slightly erratic progress once in a while.
