Do any of you apply for grants, funding to help fund your childrens sports?

My son plays ice hockey and he is a netminder/goalie. It is still a fairly niche sport in the UK. He get's weekly training but this is just team training with no particular goalie led specific training. There are a couple of camps this Summer that he would love to do and would be invaluable for him however the cost is quite pricey particulary once you've added on travel and hotel expenses.

So my question is - is there anywhere we can apply for a grant or something where we can get a little help. His club wont invest in this as they don't have the funds.

Maybe ask at the library or council offices if they have a list of local charitable trusts or foundations, or local philanthropists who give grants & donations for this type of thing.

A friend of ours was quite successful in raising funds when the local paper ran a story on their dc's achievements, so that may be a possibility too.

The coaches should know of anything locally available. My friend teaches one family who's children are all sponsored by a charity a big name sports person set up. It's not even the same sport, it's for local families whose children show potential but who couldn't afford the amount of training required.

Theres a book called "Grants for Individuals in Need" Many reference libraries have a copy. There might be something in there.
