Anyone know anything about the Surrey Youth Ballet?

I was wondering if anyone here had a dc who had danced with the Surrey Youth Ballet? Dd1's ballet teacher has suggested she audition, and I've had a look at their website but would like to know a bit more about it. Things like how hard they push the kids, what sort of standard they expect them to be (she's 7) and whether there are any late nights (apart from the performances)? I would rather not get involved in something that will be really stressful for me and / or dd1. In the other hand, dd1 is very keen to audition.

I don't know anything about this particular company but both my dc have danced with youth ballets and loved every single minute. The rehearsal hours can be quite long depending on the set up but they got so much out of it that it was worth it.

Thanks!

I think we will at least give it a go as she's very keen, but I do worry a bit about hours and pace being designed more for the middle of the age range (7-18) and she would be the youngest.

Having said all that, I suspect it's unlikely she'll get a place and it won't be an issue...

Perhaps you could email them and ask for information about days and times of rehearsals etc

My dd was the youngest, only 7, when she did regional youth ballet and coped with it better than her older brother did the year before. They will know when the rehearsals are going to be if you email them and they usually let you know the details before you have to accept the place anyway. Good luck!

Thanks! I had a closer look at their website and it does seem relatively do-able, and probably not too intense until the show weekend. Thing is, dd1 is bound to take everything they say incredibly seriously and work herself very hard, and that can be a real problem in some circumstances.
