Glad that things went ok Rue. It's hard when things get cancelled or in Lucysmams, situation where they don't turn up.

Lucysmam, how annoying.

I have a campfire version of singing in the rain going through my head from nursery!!!

Grin Rue mine would probably enjoy that bit the most too!

New roundabout after the hols - can't decide whether to get cards out over the next 2 weeks or wait

Ditsy4 · 26/06/2016 08:22

I have just found this thread and just want to say yesterday I saw the OwlProject. It was amazing. Keep up the good work all of you.

Rue
You might like Relax Kids. I did the first level training. The kids love it or you could just use a cd for 5 -10 minutes calming down. Some have stories. There is a website but I don't know how to post links.

Groovee · 26/06/2016 08:28

The Owl project?

Going to be a busy night next week...parents staying for promises, DC and mentor coming to give me my LQ badge and certificate and meeting a possible volunteer for Guides. As well as making fruit kebabs...I'm now wondering if they are such a good idea!

Ditsy4 · 27/06/2016 23:30

It was on display at Woolfest.

lucysmam · 28/06/2016 21:02

I'm having a small "aarrghh" moment.

Our oldest Rainbow's dad is a police officer and has offered to visit in full kit, and with a car, on the same Tuesday as we've sort of made plans with the Brownies for an end of term party.

Might not get another chance once she moves up to Brownies in Sept for him to come in. But I feel bad changing plans. But it'd be a good last meeting.

I dunno what to do!

Needmyowndesertisland · 28/06/2016 21:13

Make it part of the party!

Back, and finally dry after taking the Brownies strawberry picking. They were really great, did a tour of the farm and the different crops. The girls loved it. But it rained. Oh my it rained! They still loved it [:)]

lucysmam · 28/06/2016 21:25

Oooh, I haven't been strawberry picking in years! Will have to google and see if there's anywhere local

Imfinehowareyou · 29/06/2016 19:34

Hurrah - a MUCH better night! I chatted to the girls about being kind and helpful and what that looks like in a Rainbow meeting. I still got silly behaviour but it was quickly nipped in the bud and all done under the umbrella of being kind and helpful so I didn't feel like a moany nag!

I realised that I was partly responsible for prioritising the evening plan over behaviour so I took it really slowly tonight and we didn't move on until I felt everyone was ready.

Got two 'exciting' weeks coming up so hopefully I can maintain the zen atmosphere (gulp).

lucysmam · 03/07/2016 15:23

Zen atmosphere...what's that then? Grin
Glad you had a better night Imfine!

I'm wondering if it's madness to fit two roundabouts into the first term after summer (so up to Christmas) - most of our girls atm go to Brownies with nothing to show for at least a year at Rainbows but don't want to overload us.

We can't do Halloween so we're going to do a roundabout plus a couple of weeks Roald Dahl up to October half term. Haven't looked at dates up to Christmas yet to see if it's practical in reality or just in my head!

Imfinehowareyou · 03/07/2016 18:01

Well you only need to do 4 activities minimum for each roundabout. Some are really short and simple so you could easily do the four over 2/3 weeks. I often did a couple of activities in the same night.

RueDeWakening · 03/07/2016 18:30

Roundabout Festivals is quite a good one for the 2nd half of the xmas term - you can sort of cover Halloween as a pagan festival, plus all saints day, Christmas, new year etc. It'll be a long term again, so you've easily got time for 2 roundabouts.

lucysmam · 03/07/2016 19:02

That's true, I've had a flick through both new roundabouts & some of them are easy enough to set them off with as they arrive without needing too much supervision.

Becles · 03/07/2016 23:52

Bit of a rubbish week tbh. One lovely leader moving 300 miles and the other flaky infuriatingly unreliable one is leaving. So me and 32 Brownies then or I scale waaaay back and retract September offers Sad

lucysmam · 04/07/2016 10:22

Crikey, 32 seems a lot for one person to manage on their own Becles!

Becles · 04/07/2016 10:46

Yep. We're 32 with 3 leaders and shout out for help when we go out. Looking like all the September offersretracted with a parent rota. Just got to find where the 2 rainbows can go or if they have a term outWine

InflagranteDelicto · 04/07/2016 11:45

32! Eek!

Two weeks left. This week bird food kebabs, before finishing the term with a big wide game based loosely on the wildlife explorer to finish that off. Been a long term!

RueDeWakening · 04/07/2016 12:02

Yes, we've got 2 more meetings too - park this week, and a teddy bears picnic next.

I'm praying for nice weather on Friday, but we're going to the park regardless...wonder how many will come if it's wet?

And you've just reminded me, I need a parent helper for it too! I've got slack since I got an AL, I forgot to check! Grin

bombayflambe · 04/07/2016 12:18

Two meeting plus camp 'til the end of term.
Parents meeting/table decorations this week.
Beach themed barbecue/hostess badge next week.
Camp that weekend.
Then 6 weeks to catch up on overdue finances and planning for next term.

lucysmam · 04/07/2016 12:54

Two weeks here too. Been fruit shopping this morning for fruity kebabs. One mum, who I text to ask about allergies, told me I'd have to change plans as her dd only eats apples Hmm. Er...no. I'm reasonably sure someone will pick at what she doesn't eat.

Loads to cram in tomorrow then Brown Owl is in charge of our end of term beach party next week with the Brownies.

Accounts are up to date so just tomorrow/next week's subs to add. I'm making us a banner over the hols.

Imfinehowareyou · 05/07/2016 12:58

Two weeks to go here too (and I used all the ways to spell to!)

Beach week for us tomorrow and POG party next week.

What is in the air? My lovely, lovely assistant leader is moving. I have an equally lovely but VERY young, young leader and another young leader who we rarely see. I know that certain parents will help me out but it's the setting up/tidying away/planning and prep I need the help with. Gah!

lucysmam · 05/07/2016 14:17

Tonight's to do list is getting longer by the hour! Brown Owl's mam rang last night to tell me the kitchen's out of bounds due to being decorated...she's just rung again to tell me I'm having a visit from someone who does the church admin to sign something saying we'll respect the property/leave it how we found it etc.

I think I may need special ribena later on Wink

I feel for those of you losing leaders, I'm just gaining extra hands now & the relief is great. Even if all I get is someone to be an extra cutter-upper when we have the scissors out, or toilet break (of which there are too many so we'll be nipping that in the bud after summer!) supervisor I'll be happy.

lucysmam · 05/07/2016 14:18

Oooooooh, almost forgot!! I'm getting my LQ badge and certificate tonight - my lovely mentor is coming to present it. I feel very grown up and official now Grin

lucysmam · 05/07/2016 22:30

Potential Guide leader has turned into more hands for Rainbows...which is ok but come Feb there will be 5 leaders and helpers, plus 12 girls in our little room & I was trying to avoid cramming us in like sardines
